ETS 4" intercooler on stock turbo

I am looking at intercoolers and a few 4" ETS units are available in the market right now. Would an autocross or track day stock turbo evo need a 4" intercooler? Is it what i should look at or is 3.5 " enough.

I will be getting a BBK full soon also.

Garrett cored 3.5 or 3.8.

Personally I run the Garrett 3.5 and have been nothing but happy, it has seen a stock turbo, bbk full, and a v band 33rb setup.

I put down 404hp on a stock evo 9 turbo with a 4" ETS intercooler and supporting mods, the one thing that surprised me is how efficient it is,even with the psi turned up taking the turbo well out of it's efficiency range and blowing a lot of hot air it would still bring intake temps within 2-3 degrees of ambient as noticed in my logs, few intercoolers can claim to be that efficient, most of my customers with bigger turbos even up to PTE 6466 size have shown similar results at well over 700-800hp.

Wow that is impressive!

Another question about the 4" ETS intercooler....Is this a direct bolt on for an Evo 8? There is no crash bar delete or cutting of the bumper is there?

It is a direct bolt on.The biggest you can put in there while still keeping the crash beam is 3.5, for the 4" you will have to remove the crash beam and trim the inside of the bumper cover to make it fit,it's really not a big deal,i did it pretty easily,i think there is a friend of mine selling a used 4" at a good price,i can find out for you if you're interested, this is how mine looks.

Thanks for the link! ^^ If you can get the 4.0" go with it, you wont' be sorry even on the stock turbo it will not increase lag. It's a win/win for intake temps, flow and performance.

Thanks!

Michael

I have this ic, very nice.

Bottom line is get the most efficient core you can. Ets claims to have better than Garrett cores but I hear Garett cores kinda need work to be leak free so that's entirely believable.

considering a 3.5" garrett core. I just make 674 very very conservatively on an HTA 86. And they tell me there is much more room to go! You should not have any issues with power under 4". 4" I would recommend, but It tells you the IC must be build right if the 3.5" makes 700 hp and room to go. so a 4" should easily do your gob sir! Best of luck. Michael from ETS is a beast when it comes to putting together a combination. Especially a V-Band 02 housing that we both had no idea who made! Best of Luck sir

+1 for the CBRD Intercooler.

I'm running the CBRD intercooler with the 3.8" core - very nice unit.

4" just seems a bit excessive? Whats your max HP goal?

It's also a good idea to get a 4" intercooler even with a stock turbo since there are no downside to it and that way you're covered in case you upgrade to a bigger turbo in the future, that way you only have to buy it once

I could be wrong, but doesn't the 4" core require crash beam modification and/or removal?
