Thumbs up Just installed GSC S1 in Evo 9 MIVEC

Just wanted to share my notes on the install. First of all big thanks to by buddy Nick (rrstlevo) for coming over and helping me get these installed. I used the video off of street fire as a good reference, but as this is a 9 with MIVEC there are a few differences. After searching I couldn't find the answer to the few minor issues we ran into so I figured I would share with you. There are two 12mm bolts on the cam sensor sides that must be removed before the cam can be taken out. You should break these loose with the cam caps still installed. I also could not find a torque spec for them, but it only took about 30-40 ft lbs to break them loose. Also ARP cam bolts will only work on the exhaust cam gear, not the intake cam gear. We installed the ARP bolt in the intake cam gear, but couldn't get the 14mm hex plug to thread back on, so we just reused the OEM bolt. These are the major things that I couldn't find an answer before that had not been brought up. If you have any questions I will do my best to help answer them.

interested to see how much different it feels. Why did you go with S1s? Most people go more agressive if they already have Mivec. What other mods?

Got a great deal on the S1's plus no valve train upgrade needed. Only mods are JM FAB LICP, Buschur short route UICP, Walbro 255, TBE, and soon to be installed FIC 1050's.

As far as how they feel, I havent moved the vehicle with them installed, just let it run for a bit. Will post how they run when I finally take it out.

I Hope you enjoy them! They will feel great on the street. We just took a EVO 9 MR with S1s and simple bolt ons on a road trip yesterday, feels great cruising then you wromp on it and it pulls like mad.

Anytime yo. Maybe STM has some input as to why the ARP cam bolt doesn't work on the intake gear?
Now time for those injectors!

Well my new valve cover gasket will be in tomorrow and I am off Wednesday. So once I get that installed I will be ready to take it out for a spin. Will keep you posted. I also have a set of FIC 1050's sitting on the shelf waiting to go on as well .

Well I will update this. Not a whole lot of solid proof of gains but I can definitely tell the difference. No dyno time yet. Got the 1050's installed and scaled. We lowered the idle from 1000 to 800 and it sounded mean, but we bumped it up to 900 and it sounds pretty decent at idle(no video yet). Hooked up the evoscan virtual dyno and did about half a dozen 3rd and 4th gear pulls. Ended up hitting 410 HP and 511 torque. Not sure how accurate that really is. I am running 92 pump and only 21 lbs of boost. Overall i am very happy with the install and no issues.

Sounds like something is wrong with the VD setup? But Im not expert. Im sure Tom or Jay could chime in. Not possible to make 510tq with those mods, even on E85. But numbers don't really matter anyway... Good info glad it feels good.

Got my GSC S1's a few years ago on my evo 8. Also have a dsm with HKS 272s and big 16G. evo has alot more lower to midrange power over the gsx, But the GSX will pull in the long run.

How long did it take start to finish? Thinking about tackling this myself, but have never cracked a head open before...
