550+ Build Opinions, need help...

Motor has started making noise. Pretty sure its a rod bearing. Im looking to build the 2.0 with an EF3 on e85. Wanting to hit somewhere between 550-600. Need some opinions on rods, pistons and crank if needed?, will also be doing headstuds. And anything else I should do while I'm in there. This is a steet/weekend car, so dont need anything too crazy. Clutch has been upgraded and going to do a shep trans soon. Just looking for engine help. Thanks

I would go 2.3 as it will make for a much nicer street powerband. Only reason to go 2.0 is if you need the rpm.

2.3 can do 8k easy. 100mm crank in your block.

2.0 is always good for about 1,000 rpm over a 2.3. Its all dependant on parts though. I would go with a forged manley crank if the budget allows, its well under $600 street price. I would also go with some sort of i beam rod. Lots of good pistons. Buschur, wiseco h.d., arias, etc.

If its a fully built block, cams springs retainers, a 2.3 is safely to 8k, no reason to push it over that. Without the head built up though its kinda pointless.
Built 2.0, 2.2 or 2.4 engines have seen 8-10k rpms depending on supporting mods. Again, on a street car you dont need to go that high

8k is fine, idk the pros and cons of 2.0 vs 2.3, if its better to go 2.3L i can afford a new crank... How about the OEM 100mm crank? is it better to get something like a Manley forged crank?

Its better to do it right the first time. Pay the $ and get the stuff built for high hp applications. Manley crank & rods, wiseco pistons.

I'm amazed at the near universal appeal of the stroker motors. From a longevity standpoint, I could never get past the reduced rod/stroke ratio and thinner cylinder walls on the 4G64 block.

not so sure about this being true and if they are smaller i would guess it's by 1.5mm which is about .030" per side which is extremely small.i have actually heard that they are thicker from a few people though.

Go with a 2.3L with good supporting mod.
