Question leak tested - blows from valve cover

as above, air is blowing out from breather hose that is on the righ side of valve cover and goes to intake pipe

is it normal ? is the valve cover pressurized when performing leak test ?

depends how much it's blowing. could indicate bad rings or PCV.

don't know how to discribe if it's blowing much or not because I dont know how much is normal...

if the rings are faulty compression test should reveal that, right ?

I always get some but hard to quantify.

I had the same, but still 90s, or green, depending on which tester I used. What did the test indicate while it was whistling out of there? If you had significant and appropriate psi in the compressor, some leak is normal.

The gauge should tell you if its out of spec or something to worry about. It may be obvious, but make sure to wiggle back and forth the crank (therefore cam) position to get the best seal.

I didn't follow that. My leak down tester requires air pressure of 80 psi constant and will then indicate what percentage of leak. Something like 90 is green and all good. 80 is orange and its OK, but engine age showing. Some carbon build up maybe. The 70 and 60 down into the red, and there you have a problem.

believe the OP is doing a boost leak test, not a cylinder leakdown test.

OP, did you have the engine at TDC when doing the test? My car will leak bad out of the valve cover if its not at TDC. Just a thought.

Yup, my bad, I read leak and test and my mind went to leak down. When I do a boost leak mine will blow out of the valve cover pretty good.

no mate, just turned off the engine and performed the test

so as I've read posts above, there's nothing to worry about

the pcv likes to leak. unplug the hose and shut it off with a rubber plug and zip tie. see if it keeps leaking. can narrow down search.

if full leak test it can sometimes be a PITA to get it dead on TDC
