2003 Evo 8 will not start after seat removal
Hello Evom,
I have a big problem since this car is my DD. I removed both seats of my car because the seat rails are rusting pretty bad and I want to repair it. Now the car wont start, I hear ticking noise but the car will not start. Here's the detail on what I did step by step.
1. Removed the center console, removed the ICS connector and lighter connector.
2. Removed Passenger seat, 4 bolts.
3. Removed Driver Seat 4 bolts and there's a 2 wire connector under the seat.
4. Now im probably going to get bashed on this one for being an idiot but this might be what's causing the problem. I need to removed the car off the driveway, so I started it up.
It started cranking and would not start. I tried to start it the second time and it will not start.
5. I put all the connectors that I removed, ICS, Lighter, and put the Driver Seat Back and the connector on the bottom. I tried starting it and all I hear is clicking noise.
6. I removed the battery terminal and waited 5 mins. Tried starting the car with same result, only ticking noise from the starter I assume.
7. Message EVOm for help. Please help me out. I'm in the USAF and stationed in the AZORES right now. The Evom community is all I got for help. Thanks in advance guys.
Sorry for double post, but might get more help on this section.

Sounds like a bad battery connection. Or coincidental that the starter is not engaging. Nothing you described disconnecting sounds to me like it would interfere with any Starter function. I'm new to Evo's, but not cars, Is it possible an Immobilizer default was triggered? When key is turned to ON/ Position do all Instrument lights illuminate (i.e. CHK Engine, etc)? Check all the fuses, especially those for the ECU. It may be possible you shorted a circuit.
Im just tossing ideas at ya. - Good luck

Yes, I check my battery connection and everything comes on and after having the key in ON Position lights are still on. I tried to turn on the Radio but It would not turn on. I press the eject button on the stock 6 disc cd changer and it turn on but the head unit will not. The car will still not start. Is it a possibility that I fried the ECU?

check the fuses, inside and out. If you had the battery connected when you messed around with the little bit of wiring you did touch there is always a SMALL chance you grounded one of them, blowing a fuse.
Sort of a long shot, but honestly, using the cause and effect thought process, what else could it really be.

I currently do not have the seat sensor connected. I learned you don't get the seatbelt warning ding without it connected. FWIW, I drive with a seatbelt. But it's not always on while I'm still in the parking lot, or just moving the car 50ft, etc. AND, it stays on after you stop
Anyway, back on topic. I have also driven the car for months without the cigarette plug etc. plugged in. After another removal and reinstall, I forgot to connect them. and just left it that way for a long time.
Bottom Line: Nothing you messed with should keep the car from starting. Mine started with all the stuff disconnected you mentioned, and even without any seats in the car at all. So, i am thinking you could have shorted the wires, blowing a fuse.
Just checked all the fuses, engine bay, and inside the car. All fuses seems to be intact and in good condition. I checked the battery with a Multimeter, 9.17V. Could it be that my battery is low? I don't have a jumper cable so I will wait tomorrow to try a jump start.
Thanks guys for the quick response, I really appreciate it. Will give an update tomorrow.

i completely read over the fact that you are getting clicking, and not cranking. Still, think it's best you checked fuses anyway, but I was imagining the car cranking over and just not firing.
Definitely bet it's your battery.
Definitely bet it's your battery.
With voltage approaching 8v, I would suspect you just accidentally drained the battery. I'd leave anything regarding the starter alone for now (I wouldn't suspect anything more than a 'click' at 9v anyway). I can't imagine any fuse being blown from messing around in the cabin not allowing the car to crank either.
Problem Solve!
Thanks guys for chiming in. I used a jumper cable and it fired right up! So it was the battery. It was weird because the car fired right up 3 hours before I tried to start it again. Thanks for providing guidance, I learned some new stuff. Thanks again everyone.
