OBD-II scanner

Can anyone recommend me an OBD-II scanner for checking codes and what not. I have read up on some but the ones i have read seem to only read a limited number of codes. So i was just wondering if some of you evo guys with your own scan tools can tell me what your using and if you like it and if it reads all power train codes. Thanks

The difference is in how much you want to know. I bought a"pocket" OBD II code reader at autozone for $45. It only tells you what the code is, as in P0300. It also gives you a book to look up the code the reader gives you. Whereas the other more expensive reader, about $80-100, would tell you P0300 random engine misfire. Personally, I don't care that I have to look up what that code means, it saved me about $50.

Check out this OBD2 scanner.

It is pretty good except you need a laptop, desktop, palm or pocket pc to run it.

Whatever you decide to get I highly recommend getting one that shows freeze frame data and readiness codes and their status. Especially if you live in an emissions area. If not and you just want to keep clearing recurring codes then get a Creader off of Ebay. I have one that the local Snap-on guy sells the Innova 5100 I think is the model.

Scan Tech is what I use, free program to download from the AktiveMatrix forum and use in conjunction with the Tactrix cable. Shows me codes, freeze frame data, pending DTC's, the whole 9 yards.

Sorry been moving the last few day. Yes the high end Actron unit at Advanced auto parts is a good hand held unit, also as stated above the ScanTech software is excellent if you have a laptop and Tactrix.
