map, buscher, ams

My friend is I'm the process of building his own motor and i too am looking for a bottom end so I'm here using his account with his approval to ask this one simple question...out the of the 2.3l bottom ends that i can purchase which of these the shops would be the most beneficial? Map has the cheapest one going for 2600 with my core..and the price for the buschur is around 3500..i haven't checked ams out yet but im pretty sure its even more than the buschur

I like map because its cheaper and closer to where i live..but their choice of the manlely and eagle h beam rods scare me..i have heard that those are weak compared to i beam rods..any truth? What are the differences in h and i been rods?

Buschur is of course buschur and you can't go wrong with them..I'm leaning towards them right now..they have been proven to be the best

Ams also has a great reputation but i have heard from many evo friends that they are straying away from evos and going for the big money..gtrs, porsches, and etc so i don't know how well they'll treat me if i had my motor built from them..bad customer service? if I'm there and a gtr comes I'm will they just stop in my car?

And boostin performance..i don't know what the prices are on the blocks but i know devin is an evo guru..or dsm? Haha..

So it wood be helpful to know about these individual shops and what i can benefit from them..I'm only looking to make about 5-600awhp and i don't have time to build my own..as i have stated before my buddy is building his own and ii an helping him here and there..its a learning process for the both of us but i just don't have the time like he does..so thanks

You'll be fine anywhere you go.

I personally had MAP do mine because of the price advantage, but Fathouse Fabrications builds a nasty 2.3L as well:

English Racing also builds incredible motors.

Ive had good service with map on orders. Seems like there are more buchur engines on here than anything else. I wouldn't go to AMS due to their prices and the reasons you stated. ER has a great rep. Id call your top two or three and ask them some questions, see which one suits your needs best. See which one takes the time to help you most.

Check out their site... Look for ER 2.1... in peoples sig. I think they use some buchur parts along with some of their own stuff. If I remember correctly they get their blocks from buchur.

I have been reading lately a few failures with H beams, and Manleys in particular. Not trying to scare off OP, but I would spend the extra money and get the block built with I beams. All these shops listed above have prices really close to each others with their engine packages with the I beams in them.

If I had to decide, it would come down to Buschur or MAP. Both Buschur and MAP I feel give the most thorough description of what you are getting, I like that, and both of them will build you a capable engine. There are many other vendors on here that can build you an awesome engine, these two are just my personal top 2.

Jackson built my 6 bolt DSM motor and Tony is one of the most knowledgebale people in the DSM/Evo motor building world! Excellent Customer Service too...I have a huge file of emails of Tony answering all my questions before, during and after the build!

This is the guy to talk to about ER. Great shop at least give them a call and see what they can do for you.

I have been digging a little bit deeper and i still haven't called any of those shops yet! really like what all these shops have to offer and my friend is also thinking about sending in his block instead of building it himself..i guess when i call them i just won't really know what to ask them..example would be how would i know if my block and crank is still good?..would the block still fit my head which has already been built? Which steps should i take to break in the motor and etc..

And as for build time they're all about the same..a couple weeks which would get me ready by spring..all that's left is to upgrade the atp gt3076 to something bigger, get my dual fuel pumps, and fuel system..and debating on staying with the stock ecu and evo scan or go ems

But i appreciate all these inputs...it makes the decision a little easier and harder at the same time knowing that all these people trust these shops so much..I'm glad i have a better idea now than i had before..there's no doubt in my mind that these shops will build me the best block..now its just a matter of giving them a call and narrowing the gap

IMO, if you're going to use the stock block and build that, I would do the buschur 2.3rpm. It will withstand everything you want to do with the car. I know I would have if I didn't vent my stock block.*
I ended up getting a stage 2 2.4from MAP and plan on doing crazy things with it. I basically have all mods listed in this thread..*https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...stock-ecu.html and want to run low-mid 9s in a street car.*
Either way you can't go wrong!
