Thumbs up XEDE to Dynoflash

While Al was down here in Houston doing custom tuned Dynoflashs, I got a quick mail in type flash while he was here. I previously had a custom tune from Shiv while he was here in Houston. Not to start a flame war, but Al’s non-custom flash pulls much harder and smoother than Shiv’s custom XEDE tune. The moon dyno does not lie here. I still will use the XEDE to tweak for future mods. Sort of a XEDE/Dynoflash combo vs the XEDE/XFlash combo.

I would appreciate if the usual suspects would not start a flame war here. I’m just trying to relate an experience I had to others who are weighing their options. I don’t consider myself an Al or Shiv fan, I’m just looking for the best product for the money. Al is a nice person to work with face to face, and the flash was an excellent deal ($175).

I wish I could see the dyno sheets of the xede and the dynoflash to see what the diff is.

Interesting, what feels different in each case?

Do you have any dyno sheets or data logs from each tune? Any timeslips for comparison?

I will attest to kam's integrity as a level headed guy. He seemed very excited to see the differences in the two products and is using his head as apparent by him loading his cusom vishn tune and having he and Al test it out and then running his xede at a 0 map to go to stock and making the decission to use it as a s-afc as sorts on top of the Dynoflash for fine user end adjustments. Might I say that my dealings with Al this weekend were wonderful, but so as not to hijack I will post elsewhere.

Awesome Cam I couldnt agree more! The fuel cut low midrange of a flash sure *feels* faster. Just installed a friends dynoflash and the midrange hump is cool, Basically you got a xedeflash. BTW do you/we know what and how to finetune the XEDE with the dynoflash in place? Did you rezero the Xede? what timing baseline are you going to tune frome? The xede is based off the stock curve. I wonder what the actual knock attenuation affect will be with the relatively more advanced timing?

I have a dyno sheet for the XEDE custom tune, but only the moon dyno for the flash. I will try to get to the same dyno soon to get a better comparison. The moon dyno says the evo is faster now. On the XEDE I zeroed the fuel and ignition values. The knock adjustment was left the same (20% all around as done by Shiv) and the boost was left the same. So, the XEDE is still my boost controller. I know how to use the Xede software, but I will be saving the fine tuning to professionals. I’m thinking I’ll go to MZM Performance in Austin for fine tunes.

Hi Cam,
If you want to compare the XEDE to the reflash, you'll need to remove the XEDE. With it still installed, you are relying on a few of its more important features such as MAF filtering, knock adjust and boost control. Even with the fuel and spark timing tables zero'd out, the XEDE isn't bypassed. It's still replicating all the signals internally through its processor. I think you'll be surprised to see what happens when you remove the XEDE (and these features) from the system.

This is why combining a reflash with the XEDE has some advantages over running one or the other alone. This is also why we offer the XEDEFlash to current XEDE owners for $100. Glad you're happy though.

Regards,
shiv

Yes, I looked at getting the XFlash. With Al being in town I felt like it was a good opportunity to get a flash without having to be without my ECU. My first thought was to get a rev limit change and fuel cut removal, but I ended up getting a “mail” tune.

It looks like I'm getting good stuff from two enemy worlds.
