Is the stock evo 8 turbo good enough?

So i just bought a 2003 evo 8, i was told it was a stock 9 turbo, turns out i got shafted, i believe it has all supporting mods, fuel pump, 1000cc injectors, exhaust, flash tune and so on. Apparently it has a dual map for e85, getting a tune this week to find out more. My question is If i want to upgrade the turbo, do i.. mod the 8, buy a 9 or go for something like the fp green? Its running 25psi, is that also i little to much for the 8 turbo? kinda worries me.

thanks guys

Depending on your goals. Does it have a 10.5 hot side? Personally when I had mine it was a tease. It made good power then tapper off right away cause Its so small. Basically it doesn't hold boost and runs out of steam at higher RPM. Evo 9 turbo is a big difference and you'll make around mid 400whp (with supporting mods). Or if you have the money now go with FP or MAP turbos

Don't just upgrade from 8 to 9, either keep the 8's or get a larger turbo (such as the green). I suggest you do an extensive research before purchasing a turbo, there are too many good options & price ranges.

yeah i was pretty disapointed when i found out it was a stock 8 turbo, and no its not 10.5 hotside. I didnt want to go down the road of "the poor man buys twice". My goals are to have a good street/track car, that i can run e85 on and be an everyday 270 - 290 kw. I know you can pick up a 9 turbo for under a 1k but should i spend a little more..

your exactly right. it spools real quick and then just kinda sucks. If the engine could talk it would be yelling "you weak piece of ****". Oh and is 25psi on the too much side?

You have just described a evo 8 turbo , it spools fast and then just falls on its face because it can't flow enough and hold boost. Like others have said if you want to stay at stock frame look into fp,map ef turbos, or a cbrd bbk-full or bbk-b you will like the results over your evo 8 turbo. GLW your choice .
