Looking for an Alternative (2.3 vs 2.0)

***Please forgive me if this is not the right section. MODS... please move if need be***

Ok, There are MANY threads regarding the comparison between the two... but my scenario is a little different.

I have a 2.3 stroker. I have Eagle rods, and it was really fun when I had the FP Black setups on it. Now I want to go with a new setup and I need some advice on what to do. Now part of me says "You drive the car on the street... keep it a street car". The other part of me says "GO BIG OR GO HOME!" Now I dont drive me Evo often. I may drive it to a local meet, and I will enjoy the local track day in the future... But dedicating it as my TRACK CAR isnt something. I am leaning towards keeping this my street car that I play with.

Scenario 1:
Use my spare block... and get a 2.0 built.

Scenario 2:
Keep the 2.3 block... and put Turbo Tuff rods in it.
Question:
would I have to disassemble the block, and visit the machine shop to have the rotating assembly re-balanced?

Obviously the 2nd scenario would be cheaper... But would it be a simple rod swap?

Any help would be appreciated.

In my opinion if you're pulling the motor and opening it up you should throw in all new parts. I went from a 2.3 with a black to a 2.0 with 10.5:1cr and 6766.

The torque from a stroker and stock frame turbo is fun, but 9500+ rpms and huge top end power is just awesome! Go big my friend!

In particular reason why do you want a 2.0 instead of a 2.3 (or 2.2 or 2.4) I'm thinking the extra displacement would make for more of a fun car.

That being said. Turbo Tuff's would probably be better insurance. Do you have a power goal or particular setup in mind?

You want hp not torque. Build a 2.0L that revs with a large turbo. Your decision is easy!

ER 2.0L LR (88mm stroke, 156mm, 1.13ch wisexo hd's). Give Aaron and Myles a call and see how much.

smurf.

i figured that id love to put a 6766 on the car and if I kept the 2.3 that I would be limited to about 8500rpm. as far as the power goal... after the trans gets the 4.11 treatment and the t case gets some attention also... id love to see 800+. I just figured that the turbo would love some more rpm's. BUT YES... It would make for a fun street car with a 2.3

ernie. i spoke to myles a few weeks ago... Good peoples!!! I am still thinking of what to do.

if you dont drag race the car you will probally have more fun with the 2.3 with a 6766 or even 6466 turbo on it i have a 2.0 drive it mostly on the street but i dont take my car to 9000 rpm every chance i get i usually shift 8500 or so i say put some new bearings and put turbo tuff rods in it.

For a street car there is no reason to not stay with the stroker motor. Go with a larger turbo if you want, freshen up the motor with better rods, but unless you plan to race, not much point in going to a 2.0L imo.

A 6466 will get you to 800+ and it will spool better then a 6766. I would only do that turbo if I was trying to break 900+

Keep the 2.3, put some strong rods in there for added insurance. Strap a 6466 on to that summa***** and hang on.

Sounds like a good idea H although, my 2.3 6766 setup hits peak boost at around 4900 which is pretty wicked. Was very surprised that a turbo that large hits it that quickly. With a good combination of mods, a good crank, it will rip. i wonder what my spool would b on a 6466....hmmmm

Thats more or less my point. I'm not saying the 6766 is a slouch, but if you can get good spool with that big of a turbo imagine how quick the spool is with a smaller turbo that can still do the job. If he was borderline on his power goals then 6766 all the way but if he can achieve his HP with a smaller turbo that too me would be a fun car.

Unless he wants room to grow.

Either way can't wrong which ever size he chooses.

I agree! I am a firm believer in using the smallest turbo possible for your power goals.

To the OP; because you are so set on keeping this a street car, I would keep the 2.3 in there and give it some new internals...

Id love to take the car to the track...but it wont live there. this will be a street car.

Thestig... Whats the compression on your motor?

I will strap a 6766 to the motor and see whats gonna happen... Unless precision brings something new.
