Hey guys, ever since i bought my car i've had a 5th gear issue. I was debating whether to buy a used one or just have mine rebuilt. I think i'm going to end up rebuilding my trans, by a reputable shop. Just trying to see what are the common things i should purchase when rebuilding the 5MT.

Also looking to maybe upgrade the gearing in it, final drive..? Maybe a differential while we're at it. Any good aftermarket upgrades??? I'd greatly appreciate the help.

 

There is lots of options buy a new 1 isnt a very good one.

only a couple options for the Center Differential in that w5m51 Trans, thats a Quaife and it isnt part number QDH13B as listed its a QDH11B. Its acutaly hard to find now i tried lol.Not to many people upgrade there center diffs thou, the front diff inside the Tcase is the one you wanna do first. Upgrading the Final drive to a 4.00 or 4.11 is a option but that also depends on what you wanna get from your car. The Ultimate trans gear ratios, that many rebuilders offer IMO is better then just a final drive. It takes the best Ratios from a 8,9 Gear box and combines them. the final Drive gear and shaft will change all Gears. Again it depends on what your needs are, I.E dont wanna hit 5th in a 1/4 mile? better MPG? or wanna be quicker? Or maybe Cruise the Highway at a lower RPM. I just rebuilt mine, i went all stock Evo 9 stuff but with a Quaife QDH11B, why? cause my Center diff was shot, it was run low on oil from a blown Tcase seal. Otherwise i woulda just stayed stock CDiff.

 

What type of LSD is in the front? Cone clutch?

 

Open Diff spider gear, the 04 RS has a better LSD thou. The quaife QDH12B is the good one, Wavetrac supposed to be damn good to.

 

Would you say adding the quaife LSD in the front increases power on understeer a lot? Or is it all pure win?
