Overlooked Detail..

Gentlemen,

I realized tonight that I don't know what fittings to use on the turbo for oil and coolant in switching out my stock IX turbo setup for a 3586.

Does anyone know what fittings I need for my oil feed/drain? I have my oil feed off the housing with an FP filter/restricter. Can I keep this as long as I throw in a ball bearing filter? Does the -4an for the feed need to be like such with a restrictor then?

http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...egory_Code=OIL

From what I've gathered I can use the stock coolant lines. For some reason I overlooked these fittings and have been trying to figure out what to use with no luck.

Is -6an drain sufficient?

I would love to hear what the standard is for fittings and line sizes for oil feed/drain stuff, or maybe a push in the right direction to where I can find the info.

Thanks a ton.

no problem i would prolly get rid of the filter the gt series turbos are pretty stout in everyway compared to the stock frame units unless robert at fp said to keep it himself not sure if your still in pa but your in driving range of there store front if not they ship super fast anyway its funny we pretty much have the same setups.

I know, I find that hilarious too. It's the best of both worlds; top end and great down low response and torque . Are you running a 3586 as well?

And yessir, ExtremePSI is right around the corner. I've used JNZ Tuning for literally my whole build, so I'll see if he has the fittings. I hate ExtremePSI's damn handling charge when I order small stuff so I stay away from them and use JNZ (plus it's closer).

So should I ditch the FP filter and just run the Garrett DBB -4an restrictor fitting? The drain setup seems simple. Here I thought the fitting threaded into the turbo not bolted on, hence my confusion.

im redoing my oil and coolant lines for my 35r as one coolant line cracked on me. i found my oil drain line to be -10an and bought jiffy tite valved fittings to connect to the oil pan. i hope to install all of them next weekend. my oil feed line is ss -4an but i do not have a filter inline. the restrictor fitting goes between the turbo and -4an line.

yea i have a hta86 as well i love it this year i will put it to good use spool should be crazy on the larger motor and yes i would ditch the fp filter they can just clog at any time and kill the turbo they do more harm then good on gt series turbo not worth the risk.

That's good info, thank you. I mean we're feeding from after the oil filter, so if the rest of the motor likes that oil I'm sure the turbo will as well .

Good to know about the filter too. I'm hoping my setup responds well to the cast manifold and 2.4. Should spool like a Black and rape it up top on pump gas. Are you doing a 2.4 too?

I've got that to worry about, and both my skeeter valve and muffler bearing went out on the car just last night

agreed.

i am using a different turbo that doesn't need a restrictor, but i do have -4an oil feed line and i did put an inline -4an oil filter on it just for start-up and break-in.then i will run the car without any inline oil filter.

my drain-back tube appears to be 1/2" or -8an but it's just the tube style.i have not measured it yet.might be a taint smaller.

as far as the water lines, there are none on the 6466 as you probably already know.

as for the inline oil filter,i don't see a need to run with one all the time, but i do see how it could help for start-up and break-in.of course i could be wrong, but looking at the oiling system of the EVO it made sense to me so that's what i'm doing.

i'll probably start up and idle to check for leaks, then change break-in oil, then start up,tune and break it in for a hundred miles or so and then drop the break-in oil and the inline -4an filter and start running some ester based synthetic.

That's a good call. My car is all broke in and whatnot, so I just have to throw on the setup, boost leak test, and go! I don't think I'm gonna run the filter, that way I can get some money back out of the setup too.

A 10.5:1 2.3l sounds nasty!
