Is turbo 16G>20G turbo upgrade worth?

Hi everyone,
I'm asking about the upgrade kit for stock 8MR turbo.
Here in Thailand, there's an upgrade kit with EVO9 Turbo housing and 20G billet cost around 500usd

Is it worth the money? And will there be any problem with upgrade the turbo?
Also how many house power will gain?

Thanks!

so in essence you are getting a evo 9 turbo with a slightly larger wheel. I see used evo 9 turbos go for not much less than that so I say its good price.

Who makes this wheel? I am not certain about it it could be a mismatch and cause more issues.

^x2. I'd get a MHI compressor wheel, that's prebalanced/ weighed. Or a billet wheel from dependable manufacturer. Remember these wheels spin in excess of 100,000 rpms. The maker of the diffuser (or compressor cover), doesn't really matter as much..

Also I would read up a bit before you purchase the 20g upgrade. I remember people ran into surging issues when running this setup. I'll post links if I can find them.

This is actually a good price! Which company is selling such set?
Is the wheel a full size G20? The housing must be ported to fit such wheel.

Although it seems like a good price, i would just be concerned about the quality. If it all checks out, then go for it....just sounds a little to cheap (not that its a bad thing)

make it comes with an anti-surge housing or your turbo wont last long.
upgraded thrust washer wouldn't hurt either

I've been looking for the "upgraded" thrust washer and journal bearings for while now. I understand that FP has their own thrust washer design, which is proprietary. So I don't think they sell them, individually.

Where do you find the better thrust washers (ie 2 holing holes and more surface area) and wider journal bearings? The only kit I've found is from Kamak turbo's. Is this the only supplier? Or do you know another place that sells these items.?

Thanks

The Kamak ones are fine, obviously not OEM quality materials, but I've used them in heaps of builds. Mellet in the UK do steel on steel thrusts, but they're pricey and you need to run oil with high pressure additives (FPs Oil suggestion list is worth a look here).

Mike: 20Gs don't surge much/at all hung off a TD05H, I'd be more than happy to run this combo without antisurge.

ohmohm: Checkout Snailturbo on eBay, have seen their billet 20Gs up close and they're of reasonable quality. Approx $365USD

It could be difficult to achieve 400whp with 95oct, you could use a water/meth injection kit. There is a dozen good turbo choices on the market, if you're looking for a near 20g sized turbo, I suggest the new BB FP Green. The Tomei 7960 is also a good turbo, a good bargain nowadays.

Kamak/Kinugawa parts are fairly reasonable quality. I have the td06sl2r 20g turbo running at 24psi, has been doing so for the last 10,000kms, no issues so far.
