Exedy Hyper Compe-R clutch?
Exedy Hyper Compe-R clutch?
Anyone have any info/experience with the Exedy Hyper Compe-R twin disc clutch setup for the Evo? I have a japanese brochure and it looks significantly lighter than the overweight standard twin disc.
Thanks,
Eric

The Hyper Compe-R is similar to the regular twin-plate clutch offered by Exedy except that the Compe-R is not sprung hub. I believe that's where the weight savings is. I would not suggest this clutch for a daily driver as it will be very very grabby. One of those "on/off" type clutches.
Thanks for the reply. Looking at the brochure the flywheel is lightened, the disc hubs are unsprung, and the pressure/floater plates are thinner - looks like a real racing clutch. I am prepping my car for SCCA Solo and I'm looking for a lower inertia option to the standard twin plate. Anyone know where I can get one of these?
Thanks for the replies guys but I don't think the Cusco clutch is what I'm looking for. The part number for the Hyper Compe-R is MM022SBL. When I have some time I will scan the brochure to illustrate the differences.
Adam - I might be interested in the triple plate or the replacement parts to convert the standard twin to a triple.

Any new info on the Exedy Hyper Compe-R twin disc clutch ?? i read its a light weight version of the regular twin-plate clutch, even shows pics of the flywheel with big openings (holes) in it for weight saving.
Any info or feedback would be great, thanks

I have had the Compe-R and the regular twin disk side by side and the Compe-R is totally different, it weights ~7lbs less and the interior looks very different.

For reference:
Stock clutch/flywheel : 30.5 lbs
Exedys Twin Plate clutch: 30 lbs (13.6 kg)
Exedy Hyper Compe-R twin: 23.8 lbs (10.8 kg)
Tilton twin: 19 lbs (8.65 kg)
Got the above weights from a search on this board

The standard Twin Plate is almost lite stock clutch to drive *almost*. I choose this one after JUN recommended it, they use it in there demo Evo IX and are very happy with it.
