Having a oil pressure issue..
So I think I am having oil pressure issue.
So got the car and slowly been fixing things as I go along. Last week I got all my aftermarket Gauges to work. Boost, oil pressure, and oil temp.
I would first like to say I don't know what type of gauges or type of sensor is there. I know there is a wire from the pressure gauge and the temp gauge going from the gauges to a sensor in the housing of the oil filter.
So the temp says it hopes between 175 and 210. Nothing to be alarmed about. But the oil pressure says it was ideling below 5lbs and at full boost about 50lbs.... But I never got a oil light on the dash. I was talking to some friends with more built evo's then mine they suggested I switch from mobile one 1030 to VR1 20-50. Did the change today. So warm idle is 10-15lbs and full boost is 55-60.. Are these number low? Should I not be up in the 80psi range?
Evo 8 Sock motor, stock bore, still have balance shafts.... I am really concerned about this... Is my oil pump going out? How do I check? Is there some things I can try before I have to pull the front case and switch out pumps..

Let it alone--nothing is wrong, sure your a little light with the lighter oil, but you didnt mention the maker of the gauges--so that could be the issue, or the kind of gauges--mechanical or electric-- all these could be issues in the low reading. However, if the light is off and the gauges read pressure, and there is no knock--- your fine.
Notice any shavings when you changed the oil? I'm at about 90psi at full boost using 10w30 mobil 1. Also keep in mind that the oil pump does not create pressure it simply moves volume. Pressure is created by the clearances between the bearing surfaces.
Ya I am not getting knock but come to think of it I have never checked if the stock oil pressure sensor is even connected... Where is it in a evo?
I will pull the gauges and let you know what they are, and it is electronic it goes off a sensor that is threaded in my oil filter housing.
And the oil was clean of shavings, it was dirty but no mettle in it..
Oil pressure is not created by the pump? Really?

Yes the oil pump just moves the oil, pressure is created by the oil trying to squeeze through a small space. Imagine having a garden hose with the water running. Now putting your thumb on the end not covering up the entire hole allows you to shoot water at a higher pressure. Similar concept when it comes to an engine. The looser the bearing tolerances are the lower the oil pressure.
Maybe switch to a heavier weight oil as a temporary fix?
Ya the light dose come on, and I went from 10-30 to 20-50, my idle pressure and my hight RPMs is up. Was ( according to my gauges ) 4psi idle and 45-50 psi hight RPMs. Now is 10-15 idle and 55-60 hight RPMs.
The hight RPMs is what is concerning me. No name on my Gauges. Then have a patient number I will post pics when I get home. And try and to trace out my wires and conferm my stock oil press sensor is there.
Even with te numbers being better they still seem low? Any thoughts? Maybe time to do bearings? I have 100k on my engine.

First there's your no name gauges. Second, an oil sender with over 100K is probably flaky. So, yeah, you could have a problem but this is like a doctor making a diagnosis from a blurry xray.

Hey so trying to find out who makes these gauges here are some pics if any one has an idea shout it out.
So for now i am asumming what i am reading on my gauges is correct. I think i have noticed something that leads me to believe there is something seriously wrong with my engine. Every now and then when coming to a stop i have noticed my car will act like it wants to die. I have mods and tune i alwes assumed i have a week sensor or just some bad code in the tune. it happened agen over the weekend and i was looking at my oil pressure gauge. When the car did it the oil pressure (agen going of the gauge) fell right to the floor. maybe 2psi. And when i stop hard even if the car dose not act like it wants to do the pressure alwes hits the floor...
Now i am thinking this is a real issue... i only had the car for about 6 months got it at 84k now it is just over 100k...
Any thoughts?

whats your vacuum reading when coming to a stop? it could be from if you have aftermarket cams in the car if you have them and the brake booster taking away vacuum causing the engine to wanna die. happens to mine its normal to me
And normaly hard stop like -22 to -25 or so i will pay more attention on the drive to work.

Found out they are Magen racing gauges.
Tomorrow I head to the shop to test the pressure macanicaly and see where I am at. Also I will try and get a print out of the factory specs for oil pressure.
Hopefully it is a bad sender..

Woot, so put a maniacal gauge on it idle at 25lbs and at 5k at 100... so we are good.
Now i need to find out where to get another sender unit. I emailed Megan and well no help there... They said i need to go after market ( because they are not?? ) and they do not sell just the sender unit. I ask where i might get one or what specs i need to get the right one for the gauge. So they politely told me they where not going to tell me...
So here is a pic. Any one know where i might get one?
