Airtrek turbo appears to be boosting 16psi from stock?

Hi guys, i've owned my '05 CU2W airtrek for about a month now and after finally installing my boost gauge i've found out its boosting about 16psi. Both my boost gauge and my cheap OBD scanner are reading between 16-17psi peak. The only mod i have done so far is replace the factory BOV as it was failing (i think the high boost may have been the cause of that). The most likely thing I can think of is that the vacuum line to the wastegate actuator is leaking, acting as a kind of bleed valve.
What do you guys think? i have found one or two similar posts on various forums but they did't have any responses.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The Airtrek should boost around 9-12 Psi stock so 16 is high but not too dangerous.

There are a number of options as you haven't owned it from new...

Are you sure, in addition to your option of there being a leak in the boost line to the wastegate actuator,

1 that a manual boost controller hasn't been fitted
2 that the ecu hasn't been reflashed
3 that the wastegate actuator is functioning properly
4 that the wastegate is opening

Also, is the BCS solenoid is stock? If a 3 port has been fitted then it will boost higher without a re-tune.

You can eliminate 3 and 4 above by connecting a hose directly from the compressor outlet to the WGA, this should drop boost to 9 psi. If that it fine then it is probably one of the other options.

Eliminate those two first (and look for a MBC) and then move to the other options.

Also, replacing the plastic BOV will likely make boost higher as leaking will lower boost.

What did you replace it with?

Also, how are you reading boost from OBD? I didn't think it was possible to read it as the Airtrek MAP sensor is only 1 bar and needs an ECU mod and a 3 bar sensor, but I may be wrong on that one.

The part number is MR988286 but I can't find a car that has the same MAF. Maybe the Outlander turbo?

You can get them new from Amayama.com for about $500 as they are not cheap, alternatively you could see if anyone in the countries where the Airtrek Turbo was sold has one. Main countries would be New Zealand, Malaysia and Russia...
