Sorry, I missed later in your thread when you say there was a problem. From the sounds of it, I would say the wedge collar got messed up. For the pedal to vibrate then go to the floor, that would make sense.

Looks like I'm gonna be dropping the car off at the shop. It sounds fun to take apart the tranny and tinker around with it myself with no mechanical experience at all (If I do it once, I can change my clutches from here on out! ) buuuut Being that I just bought the car, I think I just want to actually DRIVE it and get used to it, first. I've had it for 3 weeks and have been plagued with issues.

Welp. Just took it to the shop. They claim that its the clutch itself. The didn't listen to my plea about the wedge retainer clip....that was my last hope I guess. I could have them change out a perfectly good stage 1 act clutch for OEM. At least then I won't have this problem again I guess.

I couldn't care less how the clutch feels. I'm only making about 320 HP. Id rather have a more reliable clutch system. I guess my next step is ordering oem parts. I'm 90% positive that the clutch in there has hardly any wear at all.

Be sure to retain the parts. If you get a chance, email me some pics of the parts and we may be able to tell what went wrong by that. My email is dstarksen@advancedclutch.com.

I'm interested in this !!!

I'm currently debating on going back to OE or going ACT. I really am reliability driven and the OEM was good to me.

I know of the ACT high RPM lockout issues though I am only aiming for 350whp

Thanks... I had no idea you worked for them. I thought you were just in love with ACT clutches lol.

after getting over my frustration and calling RRE, Mike told me that it's VERY common for the TOB/Collar..sleeve...thing to pop out. He said that it does it on OEM, it does it on ACT... it just chooses when to do it, and Exedy (or ACT, I can't remember) is supposed to be re-designing a better one. He said he wasn't sure if They had released it or not.

Unfortunately I'm looking at the same amount of labor hours to get this resolved -_- THIS is where i'm tempted to do this myself.. but I have literally NO idea wtfh I'm doing. Doug's Dyno Power is my next stop before I go on a rampage and kick a kitten or something.

If you choose OEM for a what you percieve as better reliability, as I mentioned I suggest buying it from Mitsubishi, not aftermarket. For 350 whp, I estimate the torque to be a bit much for the stock parts, although it also depends on what you want to do with the car (DD, Drag, Road race, etc). You say you "know of the ACT high RPM lockout issues"... I would challenge what you know about that since much is of what urban legends are made. Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that it doesn't occur, but there are several reasons and fixes for this and they vary. Lockout has been reported with just about every clutch brand out there, including stock. There is simply nothing unique within the ACT clutch design that would cause this. In fact in our design we address certain aspects that could cause this in order to prevent it. Our EVO clutches consistently test the same during our production and the majority of our customers do not experience high RPM lockout.

That would in fact be ACT. We are a few weeks away from releasing newly designed clutches for the EVO's. The most important improvement is a feature that address the TOB popping out. I won't get into details yet, but we are excited to bring it to market! Stay tuned on our website, facebook, etc for a press release.

^ Well darn... I am actually in need of a clutch soon (within a couple weeks) and was deciding between oem and act...

I'm in orange county CA quite local to you guys. Can you pm me details on the new clutch?

Will there be a price increase and has it been tested on other evo's yet for response and durability reasons?

Increased or same pedal effort?

I would be happy to work with you guys on this since I just purchased another evo (5th to be exact) and was planning on having the clutch installed as SC Mitsu

Thanks

Great to hear! I'd be more than happy to wait for it to get released before I have any work done. If the new one solves this problem theres no reason to have them open up the case to put it back on or put in an OEM clutch when it's just gonna happen again at any random time. Evo's are expensive enough to maintain without having some random defect that costs over $500 in labor alone, to get fixed.

I would like to know the same details actually...might as well post it publicly for future generations of googlers and evo owners.

I am curious if it's been tested in ACTUAL evo's for long periods of time (maybe 60,000+ miles? idk) but anyway.... If my clutch is deemed GREAT CONDITION would ACT be willing to buy it back?

Wow, a bump every minute! haha. Sorry but I am not going to make the announcement on this thread since the topic is unrelated. Send me an email and I will put you in touch with someone here that can provide you with up to date information.

alright, a bump here for the new TOB design, and sending a PM. I was told earlier this month that it would be released by the end of the month, but can't find any info :-)

I don't think he neccessarily meant a new TOB.. I think ACT is designing something that addresses the issue. Possibly a new pressure plate that reduces the likelihood of the "popping out" or maybe even something a bit more radical in design ?? That would be cool
