4 or 6 puck!
4 or 6 puck!
Hey guys its me again and I have finally decided to go with a new clutch disk while I have the tranny and tcase out. I am getting my stock flywheel resurfaced and still waiting on ACT to get back with me to let me know if my pressure plate is still good, can be resurfaced or is just done for (praying its not lol) my question to you guys is what would be best for me a 4 or 6 puck I don't want a complete disk. I love to autocross and drag my hp is around 450 torque is prob 440 build is not done yet. All input would be great!!!
Thanks guys

Ever consider a 6 puck solid disc? Lighter, so technically should shift a little better. Might take up to some auto x abuse/heat nicer than a sprung and it'll like launches
6 puck over 4 puck, because 50% more friction much needed material means greater durability and heat capacity. Spring center for longer life, solid center for track use only since the splines take a beating from extreme torsional vibration from a turbo 4 cylinder.
sprung 6 puck ACT , standard pressure plate ACT, light flywheel-of your choice...No lock out high rpm shifts at all, and shifts great. you wont regret it. streetability is also easy...

6 puck vote here. Had an unsprung in my last car and LOVED it but you have to be perfect with the clutch or you will upset alot of things. I'm going to try to find another unsprung when i change the evo's out.
I know it's not what you're looking at so I'll probably get ignored, but...
Scrap it, twin disc. I went from the ACT sprung 6-puck to the Exedy HD Twin, and holy ****, the twin is worlds better as far as performance clutches are concerned. Stock driveability and and feels amazing off the line, none of the wheel hop garbage and drivetrain shock you get with a puck clutch. I was going to disc slap my ACT but decided to take a chance and I'm glad I did. Sold for life.

I mean the cost of a Six puck is $200 for just the puck vs $1,600 for the Exedy and then I make too much power so I need the tripple so it doesn't work now does it? Factor in the cost of labor I mean you are $3000 in it for a clutch that MIGHT last 30K. I spent $550 for my XTSS, spent $700 on Labor, here I am 3 years later 64K miles. This isn't a debate financially.

And I don't know who you're talking to that's said they last 30k, Ron at RS Motors (A shop you haven't heard of but will be made very aware of when the Modified Street Car Shootout issue drops) has seen them go 70k, and the clutch in his personal IX RS has two years of launches every weekend at the track on it with plenty of life left. I'm sorry you're not sold on the clutch, I really am, because in the end even if it weren't rebuildable I'd drop $1600 every single clutch job without question after just the few thousand miles I have on mine.
Also note that my ACT 6-puck lasted me 23k, which is in itself a miracle with the way that I drive. 10-15k is considered pretty good among those of us who actually drive our cars.
