Engine is stock (re-built). IX (MIVEC). Turbo is HKS GTII. Car is a street driver + rare track days. What to go for?

Everybody is going to say GSC because thats what has been done time after time and made good power. But I was also looking into the Tomei's because they are a good price. From what I see, The Tomei's have a higher lift with shorter duration than the s2's. Not sure what kind of power they make but from the AMS cam test they tested the Tomei 280's and they were comparable to the S3's but with a little more loss down low and a little more power up top. So I would assume the same with the 270's vs S2's.
You would definitly need springs and retainers for the Tomei's due to the higher lift as were alot of people have run the S2's on stock springs/retainers.

Hopefully someone will chime in with some actual results.

Here is what i digged up on their website.

"The S2 Cams are suggest to run on our upgraded Beehive valve spring replacement or can be run at the stock revlimit and factory boost on the stock spring."

I'm buying a set of 270 Procams tomorrow. I believe the greater lift of them will be more of a benefit than the slight duration advantage of the S2s. Plus they're $45 cheaper from MAP.

By the size of your turbo, I would recommend the Procam. Longer duration is good for top end and high quick ramp rates are better for torque and low end. I think that it will provide all the power you need while keeping spool as good as possible.

If you had a larger turbo already pushing the powerband higher into the rpm I would say choose the S2 to take advantage of the (slightly) later powerband and help the turbo breath.

Unfortunately the AMS cam test has test data from GSC cams that are no longer made. All things evolve and the GSC product line is no different. On an Evo IX the S2 will rock the Tomei with the proper MIVEC. mapping.

Has anyone found ProCams that are hydraulic lash though? All the ones I found were solid lifter only.

The Procams are available in both. I ordered my set last night.
