Turbo Install Q's
Ok, so I'm planning to install my EF3 within the next few weeks. I have a Buschur ported & coated manifold, EF3, and MAPerformance 02 dump housing to install. I also bought the Evo 8 install kit with the EF3.
My first question is, can I bolt the manifold, turbo, and 02 housing together, then install as 1 piece?
I plan to replace the exhaust manifold gasket between the head and the manifold. I have the other gaskets as well. Besides PB blaster for all of the bolts, are there any other miscellaneous tools or parts I should plan to get for the install? Any additional hints or tips for installation?
I plan to remove the radiator, just for ease of installation. I'll use that as an opportunity to replace my radiator fluid. I'm not sure what oil I want to run yet with the EF3... any suggestions? STM will be doing the tuning. Picture attached of new setup.

Im pretty sure you can. I dont see why not. Ive seen it somewhere on the forum that it is easier that way and it is exactly how I am installing mine setup next week. (FP black, Full Race stock manifold and shearer o2 dump).
Yeah you can do it that way, I like to remove the rad just for the fact it gives you a little more room and no chance of ****ing up the fins on the inside. But yeah you should have no issues putting everything in as a whole.
I hear ya, that damn thing all bolted together must weigh 40 lbs, and your holding it at an awkward angle, one slip and it could be a bad day.

Cool, thanks for the feedback thus far. I'm still planning to remove the rad. I can't imagine that removing the rad is going to add much more than an hour for removal and re-installation. Plus, like I said, an excuse to replace the fluid.
From the videos I've watched, I'm going to disconnect the downpipe, remove my Perrin intake, remove the stock turbo outlet pipe, then disconnect the exhaust manifold bolts on the head. I think the whole assembly should come out then. Then install the EF3 setup, have Emery tune it and hit 4xx hp on 93.

remove the radiator trust me! it takes like 2 minutes and it gives you alot more room, Im not sure how the oil return is set up on that turbo Im assuming factory hardline? if so idk about bolting everything up you will have a time lining up the return. My suggestion is, install everything on your set up Tighten up the o2 housing to the turbo tighten up the manifold to the head, but! keep your 4 bolts and nuts kinda loose where it connects to the manifold to turbo at the top it will make installing the oil return TEN times easier and actually alot faster. Then go ahead and impact them *****es down.

Actually if I was looking at the right parts, I think the EF3 comes with new oil lines since they run an inline oil-filter ... I think. With that being said, I think I'm going to have to remove the factory oil lines. Maybe 'Frew' can chime in since he installed an EF4. I imagine they are similar in that sense.
As far as removing the rad... 2 minutes?? It's that easy? What steps did you follow?

Agreed with everyone above.
As far as removing the radiator. Just unbolt the rad brackets. Drain the coolant.. Then lift out. I was able to take mine out by sliding it right up. Only takes a few mins.

Should have came with a banjo bolt to plug the head oil feed since that will not properly supply this turbo with the oil needed, make sure to reuse old banjo or replace banjo crush washer for the head. New feed will come from the oil filter housing with supplied fitting. You will have to back out one of the two available hex plugs. Factory oil return, coolant feed, coolant return are all utilized. Rad should just be upper mounts, lower line and upper line and pull out.
just install the manifold, dump, and turbo all together. I've done it numerous times all bolted up, and its not heavy lol, just have sumone drop it in, and u line it up from the bottom. And i definately agree with everyone on the removing the radiator. I was lazy and didn't, now mine looks like ****, luckily it still works fine.

Any odd or miscelaneous tools I'll need for the install? I have standard and metric wrenches, sockets and deep sockets. 3" and 6" socket extension. I'll have my car either on 8" ramps or on jackstands. I'm doing the install in my driveway.
Parts I have for the install:
Buschur Ported & Coated Manifold
OEM exhaust manifold gasket
Manifold to turbo gasket
EF3 turbo
Turbo to 02 housing gasket
Evo 8 install kit (oil feed lines and turbo outlet pipe)
MAPerformance 02 dump housing
Don't have yet:
-MAPerformance 3" intake for anti-surge housing
-MAPeformance bolt kit for turbo to 02 housing
