The thickness of the gasket

The gasket installed. Normally, I guess you don't use gasket sealant, but I used some to hold the gasket to the 02 housing while positioning the down pipe. I made a mess Also, the gasket doesn't fit the 02 housing snug at all, it has a good amount of 'play' around the outlet piece of the 02 housing. This did help, but I still hear a leak and also smell exhaust at an idle. I also replaced the spring bolts for proper fitting bolts and washers.
Yea, the OEM Mazda gasket that I bought is just slightly different than that one, it is more of a crush seal type gasket. IDK if it works better than the autozone one you have or not but it might be worth a shot.

Anyone have to use two gaskets mine has a good sized gap. The Mazda one is double the advanced one price. I'm gonna try doubling up I think

Where is the gap? Between downpipe and o2 flange? If you still have a gap with it tightened down then the O2 housing is probably machined a little too big and you will have to grind it down a little so that the downpipe will slip all the way up on it. I had to do this with my megan o2 housing.

Fixed it!

Had to sand down the perimeter of the fire ring on the Megan housing. The br housing is smaller than te outlet pipe on the Megan. Through normal install procedures this was hard to see. But upon removal of both pieces I see..

Here's te 6 dollar gasket from advanced.

Sorry for the mega iPhone pic

Thanks 90zcrex!

It's more quiet, wideband has better exhaust sample and the smell has subsided.

Keep an eye out future br down pipe users with aftermarket o2 housings.

I probably could have done sans gasket but at this point I wasn't gonna do it again!

I pulled the radiator and intercooler(bumper too) to see how it was fitting at first. Excellent viewing of the problem and all of the o2 housing bolts are easy to get to . This is my standard procedure for hot side work on the car.

Did anyone have clearance issues after adding a gasket? I just went with the rx8 gasket and notice a slight rattle now...

Sorry for bringing this back, but do you guys have any updates? Still no leaks?

I have this downpipe with a jmf tubular o2.

I'm using two standard 2 bolt gaskets (wasn't thick enough with just one) and a bunch of gasket sealer and I think I'm still getting leaks. I found another post that the downpipes either need a donut gasket or a flex section or they still end up leaking.

I may try to the Mazda gasket next or just get a new downpipe that incorporates the donut gasket.

Thanks.

this thread really helped me, i bought the mazda gasket for mine, but i really dont like the fact that the downpipe is now "fixed" and doesnt allow the exhaust to flex seperately from the motor like the stock gasket and spring bolts allow
