After driving someone else’s stock evo the other day, it felt noticeably faster than mine. I though I might not have been reaching full boost. Today I installed a greddy 60mm boost gauge, and consistently saw 1.4 bar. According to that, my car is a freak, but it doesn't feel like it. I don't know what to think...

 

knock maybe? Whats ur timing look like

 

I doubt it's knock as I’m on 93, it just feels like it's chocked off. Off boost it feels just as strong as other evo's, yet for some reason boost response feels slow, and the car seems sluggish.

 

Gas? Plugs?

 

Gas is ok. Plugs are stock, and I only have 1000 miles on the car. I checked them and they are gapped perfectly.

 

well if i were you i'd still check timing... as I remember on my stock evo I logged large amounts of knock on 91 pump gas on 16 psi... the owners manual wants 94 or so octane on stock boost... runnning around 20+ psi on 94 might generate knock... I'd say just check timing for the sake of eliminating it as a possibility.

 

How am I to do this without a data logger?

 

You are getting knock and it is pulling your timing. Drop your boost back to 19.5 or 20 and you should be fine. Timing pulls almost right after your boost comes on. What mods do you have?

You also need to reset your ecu and then let it idle for about 20 min or so then drive and see what you think. This should get back your stock timing if it has be pulled back any.

 

When I pulled the negative terminal on the battery to check the plugs the ecu was reset. To give you an idea of what my car feels like: My car feels strained to accelerate, with extreme lag and crappy response. It doesn't come on boil until you really plant your foot in it and the tach sweeps to 4k, while others seem peppy at half throttle and accelerate with ease.

 

What mods do you have?

 

For the second time, I'm bone stock.

 

I say, get an S-AFC to lean out the A/F ratio, then give it a try, also the S-AFC can display the knock counts you get, second options.... send you're ECU to Al and he will tune it for you btw:bone stock you should get 20whp for $200

 

I need to keep my warranty, so no mods. Maybe I'll throw it on a dynapack and see what it lays down? Complaining to the dealer probably won't get me anywhere...
