Identifying what year my motor is

Hey, so it was brought to my attention that my car has an ACD pump. This would not be an issue but my car is an 02 and was told that these started in 05.
Is there any way to verify this?
Any numbers I can get off the block to identify the year?

I suspected the engine was swapped out but since i am still fairly new to evos I wasnt able to tell for sure.

Pic of said engine

Well im assuming your car is really a 2003, seeing how that was the first year they were available in the US. Secondly, getting numbers off of the motor won't really help you any as the ACD has nothing to do with the engine itself. Odds are that someone swapped an 05 transfer case into the car and added the ACD stuff as well.

As far as I know the only stamp on the motor is the "4G63" one. I mean there very well could be a VIN on it, but in all honesty who cares if the car has a swapped engine as long as it's tuned and runs great.

What makes you think your car is a 2002? Is it an VII? Could you please share the VIN?

The 10th digit in the VIN number is the production year. You could compare the VIN number on the car's dashboard to the VIN number on the motor and find it out.

Is your car an Evo 7, because how could it be a 2002?

You are correct that the ACD did not come in until 2005 and 2006, but possibly a different transmission and transfer case were installed from a more recent model year. Is the turbo stock? If so, I would be interested to as to what the stamp on it reads.

the only thing you need to worry about is in '06 they introduced the variable valve timing MIVEC which is stamped on the valve cover. or, pull the timing cover and check the timing gears, then it will be obvious.

no need to pull the timing cover, the motor pictured is not mivec. there is no intake cam position sensor.

my best guess is the car is really an 05. i can't imagine someone went though all the work to swap in ACD to an 03/04.

^That is what I believe as well. Its certainly not an IX at least in terms of the head. Also if it were an 02 aka a VII wouldnt the car have an ALS?

The local arizona forum is discussing his car thoroughly, it has all the VIN plates for a stock 2002 lancer but is very obvious a 2005 EVO 8.

The title is for a 2002 lancer so something is very fishy with his car. The VIN #'s on the trans and motor aren't there but he says don't look like they were ground away or anything.

It appears to have been stolen @ some point, all vins removed and the vins from a totaled 2002 lancer installed instead. He's brought it to the inspectors @ MVD and they said everything checks out fine so the thief's appeared to have done a good job at least. Hahahha.

What he said^
I am actually taking it in today for a level 2 inspection.

Notified the police and arizona department of transportation about the issue. Both said if I was able to register it that there must not be a problem.

I called a different station and the officer told me that once it Passes inspection to call an officer and have them write a report.

This has been a nightmare but either way it should come to an end today hopefully.

OP, why would you buy a 2002 Evo in the first place, knowing they weren't available until 2003???

I am pretty embarrassed about that fact. Im typically extremely **** about research.

Anyways, waited an hour for a level 2 inspection and the officer came out and looked over the car and the paperwork and said that this car already passed inspection. Asked if I was able to register it and I said yeah and he told me that its all I need to do.
