As a former WRX UTEC user, I can say its very easy, as TurboXS released base maps for a given set of mods and all you needed to do was fime tune them for your setup/fuel.

it actually offers same the same things as a standalone, except it costs less. The reason why I say this is because it can eliminate the stock MAF sensor and replace it with MAP, offered with the "standalone package"

I have heard that the UTEC is very user friendly with base maps to start tuning off of. On a side note, some of the scooby guys that have stage 4 and utec aren't running the best times, low 13's. It may be that they aren't properly tuned, but I feel once people get the utec and start tuning it, it will be a viable option in Evo tuning.
