Random No start
Ok guys this has happened to me 3 times now. 2003 Evo.
I came home from work last week (45 minute drive) parked the evo for about 30 minutes went to get in it to run to the store and it was cranking would fire and then shut off immediately. I couldn't keep it running for even a few seconds. I let it sit maybe 15 minutes and it started right up. Everything was fine with it for the next 3 days and then last night I was doing a lot of running around and went into DQ for a delicious treat and came back out and same thing. It would fire but not stay running. I can smell gas during this as well.
I however couldn't get it running at all so I figured maybe my plugs were shot since ive been beating the **** out of it lately. I went to th parts store and got the new plugs came back and put them in and waalahh she fired. (maybe a fluke)
Drove the car home (2 miles) and it was running awesome.. went inside for 5 minutes came out and sammmme thing... wouldn't start. I left it sit until I got home like 5 hours later and it started right up.. and this morning it started right up as well.
Do you have any ideas as to what may be causing this?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the replys!
Robin, I was kind of leaning towards that. When it fires it sounds like an engine that is out of time condsidering I cant rev out of it. Seems strange though that this wouldn't cause any other issues...
Swoln, thanks for the response but my car is turning over and firing fine every try.
ExVi, yes stock ECU

Ok i looked around on here and saw something about taking the cover off the end cap the cam sensor goes into and check for oil. When i pulled the cover off a bunch of oil came out after only 5 minutes of running. My newest theory is this seems to happen after heavy driving when oil has been pumping.. so maybe the oil is soaking the cam sensor and causing the no start? Kind of makes sense since it will start after sitting for a while and i hace no drivability issues.
What do you guys think or am i was off?

I still think cam sensor.
A car i mapped did the same thing.. missfire's.. first i think it was a bad flash.
But turn out to be the cam sensor.
You can check the sensor connector as well,
The soldering in can break--- but very rare..

Same thing would happen to me except it would crank over but not start at all then one time when it did start up it immediately died. Started doing this today then tonight when I got home I unconnected then reconnected the cam sensor and same with the connection to the fuel pump. Started it atleast 5 times since and its fine. Who knows what caused it for me.
You may have two problems going on here. Does it try to turn over every time? Or does it not want to crank at all? Make sure all your grounds have good connections.
Does it fire up and then stop running? How long does it run for?
