Evo 4 to 8 swap, oil cooler issues

Just swapped a VIII into my IV. The oil cooler banjo bolts on the 4 are smaller than the ports on the 8's filter bracket. I would like to swap the filter brackets to solve this problem. Since the engine is already in the vehicle it going to be a pain to get out and I would like to make sure it is possible. Will the IV oil filter bracket bolt on to the VIII engine with no problems?

The oil filter housing?

Yeah they'll swap over fine.

Why don't you just go for an oil cooler off an evo6+ or an aftermarket one? The evo4 cooler is the smallest of the lot.

Id upgrade. Yogi is right, the 4s cooler is dinky. You could save a few bucks and buy a STM kit for a 8/9. Or if you want big upgrade, building it yourself. Personally, I wouldnt buy a stock off a 6 or a used one. Coolers should be replaced if the engine is replaced (or engine blows). Therefore, I wouldnt use your 4 cooler either.

www.improvedracing.com if you want to build your own Setrab kit. Put mine together for a E5 under $400 shipped, using very badass AN connectors.

I speak from experience, it is very difficult to fit the 6+ cooler on the 4 chassis. The oil cooler brackets will not just swap over and fit fine, either. I used the 6 cooler and lines, used a combination of brackets highly modified and cut the fitment stems off the lines on both the cooler and filter housing side.
If I were to do it again I would defiantly swap to a 4 oil filter housing and use a 4 cooler or delete it all together, as so many people don't run one at all and have no issues.

Thankyou for your information and suggestions, everyone. I will swap the filter housing and retain the old oil cooler.

I have done this a couple of times by carefully boring the banjo fitting so the larger bolts can be used. so you can use evo 8/9 cooler with the smaller 4 lines. or in your case the smaller lines and cooler can bolt to evo 8 bracket.
