HKS Twin Power DLI-II CDI Ignition System

Hey all,

I see there are quite a few people running this CDI system on here but nobody has really posted any results save for a few threads (one results, other Sparktech Non-CDI vs. HKS DLI-II). My question for all of you folks running this system, why the hell doesn't this have a 12V direct to the battery like every other CDI box I've ever seen?

I bought it used, with no modification to the harness, just a plug-n-play setup:

It didn't come with instructions or a wiring diagram, but then again it really shouldn't since it's PNP. However, that said, I've never seen a CDI box that didn't have a direct 12V to the battery. How does this sorcery work? Or does it even work the same way as the M&W boxes?

all you have to do is ground the black wire i made 831 whp with one on e85 so i say they are pretty good my gap was pretty small on the plug but still worked well for the money at the time. now i have a spoolin up cop and the hks box powering it so i should have enough spark for anything now.

I use to run one of these and it worked great while it did, but mine crapped out and the car started misfiring real bad. I now run a spark tech cop non cdi . I have heard that the vibration in the engine bay kills these HKS units so choose a good spot to mount it. I would like to hear if others have any experiences of failures with these.

Thanks for the input guys, all this is very helpful. I knew how to hook it up I just don't really understand how this unit can claim to be a CDI type when it isn't pulling any voltage directly from the battery like every other CDI box I've ever seen. That part was strange to me.

It worked great on my car for about 60k miles. Then it died. Stock ignition once again and the car feels soft.

I've used an HKS DLI since 2005 on my Evo and never had any problems.
