Oh, it wasn't a demo. It was new, but it had around 20 miles on it. Just the regular stuff. So he put approx. 385 miles on it.

Redline clutch drops on the trest drives anyone? This is why you don't buy a test-driven sports car...

Mine went out at 295 miles. It was covered by warranty. Look in the warranty manual on pg. 5, it says that the clutch disc is covered from defects for the first 12,000 miles(excluding normal wear and tear). Show it to them and show them the finger while your at it.

word, read the warranty manual, it says the clutch is covered, tell them they need to fix it, otherwise he should call the 1800 number in the warranty book and file a dispute.

not word, read the manual again. page 7, the clutch disc is covered but the clutch disc facing is the responsibility of the owner. if the splines on the disc failed, or maybe the rivets holding the facing to the disc came out then you might have a claim. i would suggest reading the dispute resolution pamphlet, that is your best bet in getting it covered because its obvious that in 20 miles that evo got its **** torched.

I seriously think that you all should look at it from the other side as well.
I have a evo 7..japan spec..came straight out of japan.I went through 4 clutches(stock) within 10,000miles.Not because the clutches were so much ****( which they were) but also because i couldnt manage the clutch properly.
Now u dont have to launch your car for ur clutch to burn....it burns alot more for simple things that you may overlook...like riding the clutch in traffic, or especially on a hill.
and i had no one to go to cause the car was used before and mitsubishi here only deals with cars that they sell.
but it was my fault.
jus something to think about.
dont mean any offence by it

Update:

Problem solved. They are fixing it under warantee. People in this situation have to know that a service manager puts his pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us. I say that to show that they are no different from us and are exposed to the same sorts of pressures that any one of us can be. Basically, a little muscle, threatening to sue, and you can generally get people to do the right thing.

I am all about taking responsibility for my own actions. I blew my STi motor with 3K miles on it. I think it had to do with the detonation issues. It didn't help that I modded the car somewhat heavily. I didn't even inquire about a warantee fix. Didn't even try. Now the motor and heads are out for full race build.

I am glad to see the right thing happen though regarding my friend's EVO. He didn't deserve their original response.

I am personally trying to stick with just the TBE on my EVO until my STi comes back. I wouldn't want both cars down at the same time with no warantee.

WTF!!!!!!!!!! they're fixing it!?!?!?!!? My clutch has been blown for 3 weeks now (blew at 1500 miles) and i've taken it to 2 dealerships, and neither one would fix it...they even told me they had someone come in w/ 50 miles on the car w/ a blown clutch and they wouldn't fix it!!!!!! how did he get them to cover it under warranty?!?!

That is correct. I bet if everyone of us owned a car dealership (no matter the brand) and customers returned cars with a high probality of a abused clutch, I bet everyone of us would try to weasel out of replacing it. I know I would, I ain't giving free clutches (+ labor) to every highschool kid who thinks he can drive and in reality cooks his clutch. No way!
