Yes they are. That is why many DSM'ers went with Supra OEM fuel pumps. It has not been a big issue with most EVO owners, because the radios are turn up loud due to the road noise. You might ask another owner or tuner to listen for a second opinion.

http://www.turbotrix.com/parts/pumpkit.shtml

Came across that when doing a searchon google. Think it could pertain to our car too? I'd assume that the stock wiring could handle the new pump but there could be an issue.

Whining is pretty normal. I have a Walbro 255 HP in my 99 GSX and you can hear it every now and then. It's not noticable unless I have been driving the car for a long period of time, like a road trip or something.

Oh and if you want to hear some wicked road noise, ride in a 2g Eclipse , it makes the Evo seem as quiet as a BMW.

*edit*
evosevengsr: Fuel pump is extremely important, do a search and you can find plenty of info.

I wouldn't call it a problem, it's just the way it is. Is the pump loud enough to drown out conversation or music? If it's not really loud then it's perfectly normal.

"The fuel pump is relay powered directly from the battery. Modded DSM owners probably know why this is important and is not a mod that needs to be done on the Evo (yeah!) If you have no idea of the implication of how indirect power supply and the resulting voltage drop effect fuel pump output, you should do a web search, but here's a hint: 15%-20% flow change between 12V and 14V!"

Please disregard my previous post.

What mods do you have that you need a 255 on a base Lancer? Are you turbo'd? If so, ask other kitted Lancer owners that may have the pump.

Just to give everyone a heads up, I'll move this thread over to the Lancer Tech forums. I'm sure you'll find a number of fellow Oz owners who can help you. Thanks.

Yeah, 2g FWD seem to be the loudest. The 2g AWD seems to be in a more insulated position. The 255lph has been a loud pump in all my DSM's. Seems to be regardless of fuel pressure also.
