Exclamation Piston Slap????!!!!!!

My car has mild piston slap. I can hear it even when it is fully warmed up. It is not very loud, but is there nonetheless. Is a little slap normal with the 4g63's? Oh, and please don't participate in the poll if you don't know what piston slap is, or if you have it.

Only 4g63's with forged pistons and improper bore size would normally slap. If you have piston slap stock, I would think you have a problem. How many miles on the car? Mods?

It means the piston is "slapping" the sides of the cylinder walls. On some vehicles (LS1) the vehicles pistons will slap until fully "warmed" up...they expand with heat.

It's when the piston "slaps" against the bore because of a short piston skirt, or overbore. In extreme cases it sounds like a power stroke diesel. In my case, it sounds like faint dieseling. This is what my 02 camaro ss sounded like on a cold start. (click on play button) http://pistonslap.com/photos.htm

It isn't piston slap. More than likely it is the lifters. It is normal

Believe me, I know what piston slap sounds like. My car slaps, period. I was wondering if any others have this.

What's the mileage? What kind of break in procedure did you use?
I seriously doubt that it's piston slap. You wouldn't often see that in a japanese (tight tolerences) motor that has a stock bottom end. The lifters are inheritantly noisy even though the design has improved over the years with larger oiling holes.

OMG that's horrible! My Eclipse slapped a little, but it was due to the high silicon content forged pistons and it was only audible when cold. If your Evo sounds anything like your Camaro, you've got some fubared bores. Straight to dealer with it!

It's not pronounced, but you can hear a "rattle rattle rattle rattle rattle rattle". This is starting to **** me off. My car has 1000 miles and more problems than I can count.

I have this too, as well as the noisiest injectors I've ever heard. i can hear the from 20 feet away with the hood popped. The noise I'm talking about is classic piston slap. It's a "shu shu shu shu shu" along with a "rattle rattle rattle rattle rattle". It's almost difficult to pick up over the injector noise, but you can hear it if you know what to listen for.
