Question Tsb

I just spoke with my Mits dealer and there is apparently a TSB out on the tranny. He couldn't recall if it was a grind in 2 (or 3) and R. Anybody have any more info (like what the actual problem is)? Mine is grinding a bit going into third, but all else seems great.

On a related note, I have seen many posts about people with metal in the tranny when they change fluids. He did suggest that the problem the TSB addresses could cause this. I'll try to learn more tomorrow and update the info in this post.

I grind when going into 2nd, it occurs when it's cold out and I leave after warming it up for five minutes. If I warm it up for a lot more, normally it's enough and it doesn't grind.

That may not be a grind. Mine is very notchy going into 2nd until the fluids warm up. I found that when going from 1st to 2nd, pull the stick to the left as you go into 2nd and not pull the stick straight down into 2nd helps make it smoother.

SinCityEvo - I'm with you on that. I have the same behavior, which doesn't bother me at all really. Going into 3rd is really strange. If I'm in fairly low RPMs, it grinds a bit. If I shift over 4K RPMs the grind goes away most of the time (still get a bit of it). Just curious if anybody knows any more detail on the TSB that my service manager told me about.

Thanks Dale, that helps a bit. My service guy specifically mentioned Reverse and he couldn't recall if it was 2nd or 3rd that was the other one. He didn't mention 5th, so I'll definitely inquire about that tomorrow as well.

i had my fifth and second gear rebuilt. then second is worse than it was before. i think it was just the tech though. now 1,2 and reverse are impossible when they're cold. it usually takes about 3-4 seconds of constant pressure to go into gear. kinda sucks. the car only had 7400 miles on it. they told me it would be tight at first, then it would "loosen up" now i'm over 13k and some where around 11.5 there was a giant pop noise while cruising in fourth at about 50mph, grinds in fourth since then. can't bring myself to take it to the dealership again since they had it for 2 weeks the last time.

moral of the story, be careful who works on your car!

just my .02

Hi,

The NHTSA keeps tracks of manufacture TSB's. I'm not sure how current they are.

Hi,

Actually it is. You are not going to like this, but they have combined the Lancer and Evo TSB's under the Lancer model. Select Lancer then look through the TSB's as they are mixed in. i.e Powertrain - transmission.
