Wideband O2 Sensor INstall

Do you guys think its safe to mount the Wideband O2 sensor on the downpipe? It shouldnt melt, right?

Also, I am planning on getting a Greddy Wideband AF gauge. Anyone had experiences with this gauge? Is it reliable and accurate?

Thanks guys. I'll include some install pictures.

i have heard you are supposed to do them about 18" at least or farther away. just not after a cat, and if no cat, then i dont think it should matter.
