Fluidampr hitting timing belt cover

Things are never "bolt on". It was easy enough getting the factory crank pulley off, but when tried to install the fluid amps, I noticed it wasn't sitting flush on the timing belt sprocket. After trying a few different things, I realized that it's hitting the timing belt cover where it puckers up to keep fluids out of the timing belt area. Looks like I'm going to have to grind off about 1/16" to get it to clear. Is this normal?

Yes... I had to do it on my car... Just trimmed off the raised portion of the lower cover and went about my day...

My luck. Anyhow, I trimmed the t-belt cover about 1/16", and its all bolted up. Here is a before and after of the cover.

Here is a pic of the underside of the stock pulley and the Fluidampr. Stock pulley as a groove for the lip while the Fluidampr does not. Seems reasonable that they intended the Fluidampr to clear but probably just by a hair. Any irregularity in the t-belt cover shape causes the pulley to hit it.

Subtracting the time it took to deal with the Fluidampr hitting the t-belt cover, I would have had it done in an hour, including swapping in a new serpentine belt.

Sorry to bring this back up but I've just installed the fluidampr on my built Evo yesterday. The install seemed straight forward, only issue is that it’s making a light whining\humming noise during cruise, but only between 2,000 - 2500 rpms. No noise at idle or above 2500 rpms. Is that normal? It was hitting the lower timing belt cover also, so I had to trim it a little but the noise is still present. Any suggestions?

No whine from mine. Your's might still be hitting the t-belt cover somewhere.

I probably asked before, what did you feel/not feel after the change/upgrade to Fluidamper?

94AWD video recorded the engine sound-pitch change, speculating that when it revved up it was smoother and zippier...

Its an item on the list, looking for validation.

The motor feels a little smoother, best described as a more "electric" feel than before.

it cut easily with a razor blade. an exacto knife would have been a little better for creating a uniformly cut surface.

Interesting.. I'll need to double check mine once the new oil pump pulley goes on. I haven't ran mine with the fluidampr yet but it seemed to go on without any issue. However, I did not inspect the back side of the pulley.
