I have both the 8 peice and 2 peice metal bushing sets from Lancershop. Also installed a Kartboy SS with a heavier MOMO knob. Got Redline MT-90 in the tranny and 75w90 in the Transfer and Diff.

Shifting bliss on my end. With any setup however, you still have to wait for the syncros to line up. There is no magic solution (or as Tom@Kartboy would say "Its not a magic stick")

I say its well worth the upgrade. Along with my SS Clutch line install I think this is how it should have came from the factory.

Poly vs Metal? Hmmm I dont know on that, but I will wager a guess. The metal bushing kit feels very very direct. On my setup I have no play to speak off in the shifter...but I suspect that the metal passes through a bit more vibration than Poly bushings would. If I leave my hand on the shifter when at WOT I can defiantely feel more vibration than the stock shifter. I would guess that the Poly eliminates some of that vibration. Its not noticiable to be honest, and hardly worth mentioning...

I would think you would be happy with either. I think you have to retain the metal washer thats in the rubber bushings with the poly bushings during the install (under the console).

Silly question, but where do you get the gm syncromesh, gm dealer?

What grade & weight did you use?

As far as the bushing question goes, I havent modified my shifter bushings, but I would guess over the long haul, the poly bushings would be gentler to the syncro's than the metal bushings. Something has to give, much rather it be the bushings instead of the syncros.

GM Synchromesh is available at any GM dealership, funny part # IIRC, something like 1234548 (just a wild guess, but I remember the first couple #'s being sequential). About $7-8 a quart retail. Good stuff, have used it in other vehicles in the past with good results. Wouldn't say Night and Day difference but it smooths out the gears just barely perceptible.

Has any high roller tried the Shell Helix??? Just wondering, eventually someone will no doubt try it.

Hey I was close on my guess, here's the GM p/n #12345349

It's made by Pennzoil, more information can be found here

...ask your Mitsu dealer, that's where I got the part number... parts guy gave it to me and told me to go to GM to avoid the "mark up". I don't have a bottle on hand. The fluid "broke in" after a few days of driving, and the second gear issue went away.

I don't believe there's a Shell Helix. I think some may have mislabeled it, because Shell Oil doesn't have it globally listed in their product line as a transmission lubricant. There's a Shell Spirax, but it's a gear oil, GL5 IIRC. Then there's Shell MTX, which is what I think people are calling Shell Helix. Guess what....? It's Synchromesh. Yep, another synchromesh fluid like the one made by Pennzoil for GM. Here's the technical data paper. http://www.shell-lubricants.com/prod...f/MTXFluid.pdf

If anyone is curious to see if Synchromesh offers better results and want's to try it out just go to Autozone. They have Pennzoil Synchromesh there for $4.99. Alot cheaper than getting a relabelled one and the same stuff.

How do the shifts sound with the metal bushings? Is it a bit noisy like the fast n the furious eclipse? I want to avoid as much excess noise as possible.

Great quote right there!

I install aluminum base bushings / bronzoil cable bushings / short shifter combos every week on different cars and there is never an increase in noise or vibration. The end result of such a combo, to me, is how cars should come stock from the factory!
