Evo 7,8,9 - rods&pistons difference

Hey guys. Is there any diffrence between rods and pistons in Evo 7/8/9? Which one can hold more power? Or maybe they are just the same?

Power wise it really depends on what they're made out of. Cast pistons are weaker than forged.

Naturally E9 internals would withstand more power.
I've read that E7 rods are weaker than 8 & 9.
But in general, you would want to upgrade to forged internals when reaching beyond 400hp

I've heard 8/9 are the same and 7 rods were also weaker as well. Anyone confirm?

According to Mitsubishi's literature the 8 and 9 pistons are of a "high temperature fatigue resistant alloy" not used on previous versions. My personal experience is that the 8 and 9 pistons do put up with abuse better than previous versions, but this is subjective.

I am on Tomei Arms right now and i'm a little scare to put full boost from this turbo on my stock engine in Evo 7. I don't know if I should just change pistons and rods for some forged parts. I would like to see about 420 BHP and 550 Nm...

If you're planning to go beyond 1.7bar then go ahead & install forged internals.

Thanks. I will be replacing my head gasket, so I think its chance to pull out whole engine.

It would be a good idea to through some aftermarket head studs as well.

I don't believe there is a difference between the evo 7-9 as far as rods and pistons go.

early DSM 7 bolt engines have made 700whp "stock block" records. the evo 4 block is superior to the early 7 bolts. just because you havent seen any good results from an evo 4 engine may mean you just havent seen any.

Evo 4 are a dime a dozen most Evo 4 I know off arent on their stock motor...

I also owned an Evo 4 and have 6 friends with them. Boost a stock block evo 4 at even 28 psi and beat on it. Its not anywgere near evo 5-9 on the beating it can take.
