Like the title states. Is there a mini that will keep cca's ?

 

To my knowledge, I don't think there is. The battery itself is just too small to hold a good charge when it's cold.

To help combat that, I would definitely look into a battery tender http://batterytender.com/. Think of it like a smart trickle charger that won't overcharge your battery and keeps it maintained.

So when you get home from work, just connect up the battery tender overnight and in the morning, you'll be good to go!

I just bought this http://shoraipower.com/lfx36l3-bs12-p130 Shorai battery and put it on this past weekend. Its specs are as follows:

CCA 540
Lenght 6.55"
Width 3.39"
Height 6.10"

I installed it on Saturday which makes today day three. The car is garaged but my first cold start was last night after work where is was ~20 and it fired right up. The longevity is yet to be determined but for now I will keep my fingers crossed that this will do the trick.

I still need to trim my stock tray but here is what it looks like so far.

 

My 680 started all last winter . This winter it's suffering. New definitely helps. Does the civic battery fit in with short route uicp?

680 will start my car down to about 5-10 degrees . It's been -20 *f

 

I've tended it all night before and when it's -30 or less I don't believe it helps.

 

From the research that I gathered the important spec is CCA. It is measured at 0 degrees which is something that will be come into play during a cold start. The PC680 is only 170CCA and the Shorai which I just purchased is 540CCA. According to that its not even close. And to top it, the one I purchased only weights 5lbs and the PC680 weights 15lbs. The only downside is the price but it wasnt that terrible. I found it for $260 shipped. Hopefully it will last a while but for now I am quite satisfied with my purchase.

Amazon usually does a deal in the spring time where you can get this for around 25 shipped. Im waiting for that to happen so I can have a backup. But I wouldnt think of running it in the winter. Toward the end of last autocross season, it lost its charge several times after sitting for more than a few days once it started getting cold out. At 25/piece it really doesnt matter to me and I might just buy 2 this year to have one on standby in the basement.

I have heard of others doing a Civic battery with a short route.

 

^^ I was going to suggest a Civic battery and a custom battery tray / utilizing the stock tray.

I went to NAPA and measured batteries until I found the right one for me. It isn't a Civic battery but it is close and I have 660CCA. Plus it's not a $200 battery.... $80 out the door and a 5-yr warranty.

 

Odyssey makes a PC925 also, when I went small battery over the summer I stayed sway from the 680 because I live in Chicago. This has been the most brutal winter I can ever remember by far and the 925 has started every time, the first time. There are also companies that make Evo specific trays for the 925. It has a lot more cca then the 680. Check it out because its been great for me.

Mine starts every time, sometimes I don't drive my car for a week.

 

i also have been using the Shorai battery that was listed above. mine is 3 years old though. it for sure has a much stronger start. also the battery has sat on the shelf the past year and 4 months. it has not been touched and is still at 13.0 V.

the price is heavy but that is ok. 540cca, 4.9lbs, and so far years of great solid use is worth it to me.

 

Does the shorai fit in a 680 tray? I have be br..

 

I have the same battery and my car is garaged, if I dont start it in 3-4 days it doesnt have the amps to start the car and the damn battery is not even 4 months old.

 

PC680 - length: 7.15 x width: 3.0 x height: 6.65
Shorai - length: 6.55 x width: 3.39 x height: 6.10

 

So barely a call it half inch wider.. Hrmmm ill check when I'm jumping the Evo tomorrow morning
