Hotside Evo 9

So I have bad news. My dad broke a bolt the is on the hotside and mani. ( one of the back furthest away from the turbo) well since there is only two of them on the inside of the runners I was wondering if I was going to lose any pressure or if I was going to have any leaks because I only have 3/4 bolts/ nuts on there? And does anyone know where I can get a hotside for a Evo 9 turbo? Any help would be great. Thanks

Yes it will leak. I did the same think a couple years ago. I ended up just drilling it out. The very last part at the bottom was a pain and zapped it with a TIG torch to melt it right out. I was very careful not to mess up the threads and didn’t even need to retap it. Just so I wouldn’t have to worry about it next time I bought a stud and nut from the Mitsubishi to replace the bolt. If you drill it out on your own take your time. Start small and work your way out. If you don’t think you can do it on your own unbolt the hotside off the turbo (V-band and actuator) and take it to a reputable machine shop. Make sure there’s no debris in the hot side before bolting it back up. Sorry it’s no fun but it’s not the end of the world.

U don't need a new hotside. Drill it out, get a new bolt that will thread in or if the threads are jacked get a slimmer bolt and nut.

Its getting pretty hard to get a hot side these days. So expect to pay a premium. If you have already messed up the hole I'd check the used section here, you may luck out or contact your local machine shop they can build up the material and retap it. you'd never want to use a smaller bolt to tap into bolt material. If anything you'd wand to drill out the threads tap and rethread it with a helicoil for the right size.
