Fp green Preload

Hey there, i recently got my fp green on my car, hasn't been started yet. i was wondering what preload fp set the turbo at? it was a evo 9 turbo sent in for a rebuild and is using the factory ix wastegate actuator.

What did other people get as a preload value from their green?

Cheers
Stephen

How will you be controlling boost on your Green(i.e., MBC, EBC, or ECU/BCS)? What is peak boost gonna be set at? Did you call FP and ask them if they set it in their shop before shipping, and if so, to what level of spring pressure was it set?

There is a "How to set preload" video(s) on the F.P. website. You may want yo take a look at that/those. Although, you should be aware that there are caveats that may apply in your case.

I have never seen these how-to videos myself. You might check it out though so as to get an idea of the mechanics involved when adjusting preload(wastegate spring tension) on your turbo.

Keep in mind that your particular case may be different than the 3 settings(zero/standard/high) described in those videos. If the videos describe setting preload on a brand new FP HD WGA you will get different results with your high mileage stock MHI IX actuator.

Why is this so? Because the FP HD actuators have either an 18#, or 25# internal spring. Your stock MHI IX actuator when new had a 10-11# spring. Overtime due to constant work cycles in a high heat environment and resultant fatigue your stock spring has become progressively weaker. What was once, when new, a 10# spring may now in reality be an 8# spring.

In other words: 3 complete rotations or 1/2 an eyelet on an actuator fitted with a wimpy 10# spring and a weak diaphragm will result in maybe a total spring pressure of 12-13#. Whereas, the same 3 rotations or 1/2 eyelet on an actuator with an 18# spring and a heavy duty diaphragm will result in a significantly higher level of preload.

This is just food for thought when setting preload according to generalized formulas. Among other factors, the actuator's spring rate must be taken into account otherwise results will vary widely when using these eyeball methods of setting preload.

will be controlled by a gm ebcs with pig tail harness. and i honestly have no idea and haven't called them as international toll rates are killer. I've seen the video of how to set preload but the turbo is already in the car. Hence i was just wondering if they ever change the preload from when they rebuild turbo's.

Max boost will be on 98 octane (your 93) i can't imagine it would be higher than 26psi

Cheers
