EVO IX current set up
EVO IX current set up
Hi guys,
but i just want to clear a few "Maybes'"
The Evo IX mivec 2007'
is basically almost STOCK…
except for;
1.) 3" stainless Downpipe between the CAT & factory dump (this deletes the JDM 1st/small cat)
2.) 20PSI turbo smart actuator.
3.) Factory ECU re-flash.
apparently this car has had the re-flash before the down pipe + Actuator installation.
When i first purchased this car i was told a few things from acquaintances;
1.) I've been told that messing with exhaust & boost without a tune, can risk f@#$ing up the motor. ("very risky", if it hasn't had it done id drive it off boost to the workshop").
2.) "putting an boost actuator without an decent intake and exhaust, is the WRONG way to go about it.. some people just dunno how to work their cars"
So, whether the guy REALLY didn't know what he was doing or he pinched a few things off before bolting some of the stock items back on before the sale..…..
but if i was to complete the set up further with;
a.) full 3" exhaust system
b.) o2 dump
c.) Hi-flow cat
d.) Gruppe Intake…
would it be detrimental to tune it?.. if i don't, would it once again….. "blow the motor"?
Thanks in advance.
i figured id HAVE to clear this in the forum with fellow EVO tuners who had experienced things. =)

I highly doubt your motor would go because of a tune prior to installing a downpipe + actuator. HIGHLY doubt it (unless the tune is crap).
And adding the items you listed would not be detrimental. Your AFRs could slightly be altered but not by much.
I would suggest that you install everything and have another tune by someone experienced as you would benefit in terms of power, possibly MPG, and most importantly safety.

Because this friend of mine actually said if i was to add all the parts i mentioned…
"drive it very very slowly OFF boost to the tune shop with the new set up and get it tuned…."
If the original tune was good then no you should not have any issues. I've installed parts that have more effect on performance without tuning the car and drove it normally without issues.
Ill let you know how it all pans out.
What sort of Exhaust is on your vehicle?
On my Evo 8 MR, I have a full 3" Greddy (which is incredibly loud I love it), on my Evo 9 MR, I have an Invidia 3" downpipe and test pipe with a 3" Greddy catback (because it's loud).
