Bit of knowledge required regarding EVO IX turbos, power etc.

I have a friend who appears, very opinionated.

he previously owned one of these;

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FPV_F6

(current model)

So it says that it runs a Garret GT3040 and/or GT3540.

He currently loves his Honda Civics. claims a Non turbo civic with 160KW (214hp) can be faster than an EVO with 260KW (350hp) due to the weight difference.

Anyhow, he does not favour the EVOs …. criticised the EVOs with "Tiny, baby sized turbos"…. and mentioned "where as my old car had BIG BOY Garrets"

(yeah and you would think a friend would put your car down like that?) The type that seems to know it all, and always has to have the last say.. no matter what.

Anyhow,
the EVOs turbo is not larger or equal to the Garrets mentioned above which from memory are about 78mm & 52mm or something.

The EVO IX has the largest out of the bunch.. something like 68mm & 38mm… which is NOT "tiny"…. (or is it?)

Basically "yeah stock turbos like your OEM ones are crap"

He claims (without any documentation or source) that the EVO IX turbo can ONLY be capable to run up to 250KW (335hp).

and his beloved Garrets can run up to 410KW (549hp).

Sometimes with friends, you would tend to just keep things to yourself… if someone drives a ****box you wouldn't really wanna say offensive things about it would you? For e.g if you look at the Wikipedia link i posted above… the 0-100km @ 5.1 sec & 400m @ 13.4sec.. isn't exactly….. "Fast" considering how much power that car has… Obviously its getting weighed down from its 3781lb. and definitely not up there with the Current model M3's or C63 AMGs

so tell me guys, whats your opinion on this?

What is the max power & boost the stock IX turbos can run?

are they really that, ….S H I T?

is it a Baby sized Toy turbo?

I'm curious to know this also.

cheers

The stock turbo can easily do more than 335hp.

If you had a 200hp crx and raced an evo. The outcome wouldn't matter. It's still a crx. Trust me, I had one.

Tell him you could do a few small upgrades and whip his Honda and his Ford on a track and a drag strip.

Isn't the EVO the lightest AWD turbo sedan car sold?

His CRX weighs 2k lbs, your EVO is 33% heavier and has 57% more power AND AWD. Facts are facts.

It depends on what type of fuel and mods you use. Pump gas around 370whp max. e-85 over 400whp. Check the dyno results threads many examples in there.

They're **** for top end. Great for quick spool and daily driving.

They're baby sized compared to some of the larger aftermarket turbos out there.
But are absolutely huge compared to stock VW & Audi turbos.

I've seen English racing tuner evos hitting around 400 WHP on stock turbo. If your friend thinks a fuel economy car is faster than Evo because it's 500ish pounds lighter, let him say what he wants. Some people like to BS their friends because it makes them feel like the center of attention. Take my old man advice. Don't argue with stupid unless you want to come out feeling stupid in the end.

Lol let's be real for a minute. A stock motor s2000 will put in more work than a stock Evo. Same turbos s2000 will always be faster. Auto-X Evo will need to be upgraded against a stock s2000

Evo's just have more room which make them better. Lol.

Honestly if you want to be a dick a gt35r is still considered a baby turbo for drag 4 cylinders. Lol. I'd be an ******* and just tell him he's got a baby turbo and is a ***** if he doesn't get a 82mm+ turbo like the rest of the fords. Bc anyone that's trying to break a record or go fast isn't going to pick the turbo his car has. Lol. I'll say this you know you have a big turbo when you have to spray the car to get the turbo to spool.

Where, in what world is a stock s2000 "puttin in more work" than a stock evo. Also, considering the fact that A LOT of guys swap out the stock motor should tell you enough. When was the last/only time you saw an evo/dsm(besides evo X) WITHOUT a 4g63 in it?
