Nope will have it all cleaned when I do it this time. Didn't think about that when I installed new bearings, Shavings probably everywhere.

The sandblasting is a no no.

Could have implied to someone that sandblasting should have been done, so I was clarifying that it was a no no.

Anyways, like everyone else said, that damage is from trash still in the engine.

That's what I did on my rebuild. This way if there are any issues, its one less item to purchase again. Once you know your internals are good, then you can slap on the cooler.

Make sure the oil passages are cleaned, as well as the pump, if you don't replace the pump and front cover. The contamination came from somewhere -- either the clearances were not right on your new motor, or it came from one of the parts you reused without cleaning them. The turbo can be contaminated as well as any oil line that was used when the engine failed the last two times… clean every oil passage, every line, and replace the cooler...

Clean/replace everything that oil touches. Have the machine shop hot tank the head. Replace the oil pump and cooler. Look into replacing the turbo as it will probably take a dump soon.

Don't forget to use assembly lube and then I always prime new engines with the oil pump and a drill before I install the timing belt. This way you know there is oil everywhere.

Check all bearing tolerances with plasti-gauge--dont take the builders word for it Make sure you have the rt size bearings as well. Lube and repeat..lol

I would guess the crank was not properly cleaned.

Over the years crud builds up in the dead end of the oil galley.

Remove the press fit oil galley ***** from the end of the rod throws and clean it out.
