I have read through countless threads, but they are as old as 2009.
This question pertains to MAF related intakes.(No SD comments please)
Want the best intake there is (power, spool, etc) give me some feedback. Please personal expierence, not your friends friends girlfriends car stories.
Thankx

Actually, if you are refering to the K&N typhoon intake, I've read its the worst intake ever made for the evo
I personally have a samco induction hose, with an Amsoil dry element cone filter, inside a group A "hks kansai" carbon air box, works perfectly fine

Actually I don't think it really matters, as long as it keeps dirt out and doesn't affect the maf there all pretty much the same.

I've seen filter tests where they dyno'd a stock airbox, a cone filter, and a filter placed outside the engine bay. Guess which one made the most power.

Heat robs power.

Intakes will only really matter if you have other supporting mods to go along with it, including a tune.

I run a Perrin intake and think it is nice

The intake is just an empty piece of pipe when it comes down to it. Just make sure you have a good quality, clean filter that is large enough for the turbo.

you are talking about a 1 hp different between one filter and another. There is a study on intake filter on youtube about intake and cold air intake and do they make a big different. I will search it for you so you can see.

There is a thread somewhere on the site that dyno's a lot of the available intakes for the car and the Perrin came out on top, not by much though.

But also from reading various threads and dyno graphs the stock box is ample for moderate power, just replace the filter with a K&N or Works or Etc.

The thread you're talking about didn't test any intakes, they only tested filters. The Perrin filter did show the most hp gains. I personally run the Perrin Intake on my Evo IX with no issues or complaints to report. And for your reading pleasure here is the Air Filter Shootout thread
