Exclamation COBB Accessport for the EVO8!?

In case any of you haven't heard, the AccessPort was just now released for the WRX. My roomate got his yesterday and damn that thing is F'in SWEET! So simple and effective, it should be available for us!

I went browsing the AccessECU site this morning and found this:

http://www.accessecu.com/products/accessport.html

Look at the bottom where it says "Under Development"

If this is true, we have a VERY powerful product coming for the EVO community, which will blow SAFC's, E-manage's, etc.. away, a lot of low budget tuners will be able to reap benefits without downtime!

I wonder if we can get them to take major notice of the necessity for that device in this community and speed up development?

Wow that really is interesting. I was under the impression that COBB was (and intended to remain) a Subaru-only shop. Perhaps that will remain the case for everything other than AccessECU. Still, it will be very interesting if this does come out for the Evo.

I believe you are correct juvineth. Trey Cobb has stated (at least in the past) that he has no intention of building anything for a Mitsu product. However Cobb is only a distributor for AccessECU and has nothing to do with their development of a Evo specific product; I think.

It would be cool if you could actually tune with it.

Actually, if you buy the software that goes with it (AccessTuner I think) you can. This is based off what I read on the site linked above, COBB's site and their discussion forum. I don't think the software is available yet, though.

I don't think that's correct. If you look at the bottom of the "company" page for AccessECU you will see "AccessECU is an independently operated division of COBB Tuning, LLC." This seems to imply to me that COBB Tuning owns AccessECU and is not just a distributor. However, the "independently operated" part means it doesn't have to operate under the same rules as the parent.

Whatever. I don't care if Trey changed his mind... heck, I think it'd be great. A friend of mine is going to get one of these for his WRX and I guess time will tell if they become available for the Evo. It will sure add a new wrinkle to the choice of engine management.

I'll drift over to the Cobb tech forum and find out. I would love to have an inexpensive reflasher thingy. No laptop to hall around and update the maps as you change your mods. Nice!

Heres the response I got from AccessECU directly, it turns out COBB just does the WRX AccessPORT, and AccessECU is developing the hardware for it.

We currently don't have a firm timeline for the EVO product as of yet, but
the initial stages of development have been completed. We can flash the
ECU successfully, and we know the major functionality of the AccessPORT
will be compatible with it. What we haven't done is all the time
consuming "grunt work" to build the technology for the EVO into the
AccessPORT.

We're all itching to work on it as we know how much potential can be
unleashed with the ECU's on that platform. What's holding us up is the
fact that we've already taken on some major contracts with other companies
to provide them the technology on the 350Z and RX-8 platforms. As the ink
on those contracts is already dry, we must complete those projects before
we can redirect our attention back to the EVO (maybe sometime in early
summer).

Sorry I don't have a better, more firm answer for you at this time. A lot
of it will just depend on when those other projects are completed. We'll
do our best to keep the website up to date and when we start getting
close, we'll be happy to contact you if you wish.

Kind regards,

AccessECU

Ah shoot. With an answer like that and given the time this has been in development, I doubt we'll see it for the Evo any time soon. (Not trying to bash, just being realistic.) Still, it looks very cool and it's nice there's even a chance for it to be avaiable for the Evo.
