Gear pops OUT of Reverse only when...

my issue with gear poping out of reverse ( was fine last night, overnight it decided to stop working).

If i start my car in N, and put it into reverse, it doesn't seem to be going in all the way, and as soon as i start releasing the clutch and adding some gas, it pops out instantly.

BUT if i put the car in Reverse before starting it, then start reversing, its completely fine.

I've tried adjusting my clutch up and down, and makes no difference. There doesn't seem to be anything interfering with the clutch cable under the hood.

The transmission is fresh built from shep with maybe 800-1000 miles. Clutch same thing, new with same mileage. I just drove 600-700 miles on friday, and didnt drive car saturday. Then today(sunday) i got it, tried reversing and this is what im dealing with.

Any input much appreciated....

Dave

Try keeping slight pressure on the shifter when engaging the clutch and assist it into gear. Also, try this: I've noticed sometimes if I shift the transmission into first gear before trying to select reverse, it will go in easier.

Something bent or worn in the linkage or shift cable.

gonna replace shifter cable bracket since it has been bent a while back when transmission issue happened. also gonna look at the shifter linkage under the console and make sure all is well.

ill keep this updated for future reference.

Well, the shifter cable bracket didnt change a thing. I lubed and inspected the shifter linkage cables, and all seem to work fine, but the issue is still there. I dont have any cables, or UICP touching anything.

1st to 5th is no problem. Reverse doesn't seem to go in fully when car is running. As soon as i start to try and go it pops out. Only way it stays in R, is if i put it into R before i start the car. Im clueless how this happens overnight.

I've adjusted the clutch both directions a number of times, and nothing. I dont think its clutch adjustment because my 1st to 5th work. And i remember LONG LONG time ago, when i had issues getting the car into reverse, it was a clutch issue, and this is not the issue this tiime around.

Only thing im left with it seems is, trans internal damage and shifter cables.

I dont think the trans is damaged, because like i said. If i put it into R before starting car, it doesn't pop out and its fine.

Any suggestions appreciated.

This is driving me nuts.
