Best turbo to max out stock engine on 93?
Much gratitude for a decent conversation . They always say pick the smallest turbo that will get your goal. I'll revise that. Pick the turbo that meets your goal in the highest efficiency island. Fair enough? There's more constraints than just that but I want to "kiss" the revision
And it goes with out saying that there are ef turbos and cbrd etc

I always went with the "smallest to meet my goals" but I have never tried to push much past what the average person seems to make on the specific turbo. Not a great way of doing it but it's all been done before for me.
That's a great way of putting it though. The only downside I see to this in the stock frame world, is not getting proper maps for each turbo like say garrett does, right? Without those it's hard to say anything other than staying in the flow ratings floating around with the 1lb/min = 10hp, right? Obviously a black making 400hp is in a different efficiency range than a green making the same but all we really know is the black would be in a higher island correct? Or what am I missing is what I'm getting at lol.
MAP EF 2.5 seems to offer good streetable power for the money. With alky, or Ethanol, and SD and ported everything it should be up around 500+. But, you don't want that much power....do you? I really like doober's setup above.

Doober too low of a pr can be inefficient as well. As for your example I would say that you would need to consult the manufacturer as to the conditions present and targets and efficiency goals. Forums will tell you stock turbo can do 400 whp all day and that's obviously past the highest island on a stock turbo map.
Very poor actually.
1.8 maybe 1.9 but not 2.0 .. 29 psi or so is nearly maxing out the turbo completely and in the lowest mapped efficiency zone

No problem
. I asked fp about my 71. 22 was pretty ideal he said. I can get very near or on the 400 mark virtual dyno with that . Compressor maps are only part of it even more elusive are turbine maps and just because the compressor can make that flow doesn't mean the turbine wants to let it out. So I laugh at stock turbos choked up with overloaded waste gates 30 psi out the top
