EVO 8 Need Help

Hi Guys

I have an Evo 8 GSR, 6spd 2003.

So plan is to beef up my tcase and rear diff. Have been looking for weeks now and it seems I have bought the wrong evo.
Should have bought an RS huh!

Anyway, I guess what I'm looking to do is an RS conversion on my GSR as the options to beef up my ayc rear diff seem to be limited to NONE. Any details on what is needed for the conversion would be appreciated. I'm in Australia and finding it hard to find anyone who knows what they are doing.

Thanks guys

For the tcase you'll need to delete the pump and ACD ECU to install the mechanical front diff.

The driveshaft length differs from AYC to non-AYC I believe, so that will need to be changed as well.

This site is mostly US and we didn't get any CT9A's with AYC so experience here will be limited. What mods are you trying to do that will be limited by your drive train?

Going to push for 400 awk next year. Do not wanna blow a tranny/tcase/diff evertime I take it to the track or strip.

Thank you for your reply .

Your drivetrain is more than capable of holding 500+ ft/lbs, even with an AYC diff and ACD diff.

Your only Achilles heel would be your 6 speed transmission as they're known to collapse at around 400+ ft/lbs.

There are two solutions to the 6 speed as I see it:

1- Replace it with a 5-speed.

2- Purchase the modified 6-speed gear set from ShepTrans as they are rated at 650 ft/lbs, which is more than sufficient.

Other than your transmission, you're fine, and obviously you'll need a better clutch if you want to start making power.

I'd also replace all bushings that hold your diff/tcase to ensure longevity and increase the sturdiness of your setup. The less those parts bang around, the less likely they are to fail.
