Hood exit dump
I'm in the market for an open dump, and I like the idea of the hood exit. Now I do drive my car quite a bit, and it is outside a lot so I'm taking weather into consideration.
My question is will it be ok for rain to get into the pipe? Now from what I understand the wastegate should be sealed until boost pressure overcomes the spring, so I would assume that water really shouldn't affect it since it will get blown out at WOT. But I'm not an engineer so I'm looking for a little feedback.
I try to keep my car inside as much as I can but I know it will get stuck in the rain eventually. If it can damage my car then I have no issue settling with a different setup, but if it really has no I'll affects I think I'll go with it.
Anyone with experience let me know please, thanks.

I do not have a hood exit dump but I have always wondered the same about rain, snow, etc... When I thought about doing it I thought about semi trucks and the flapper they have at the top of the stack. You could prob make something similar for the hood exit. Im just not sure how good the seal would be but you get the idea.
Are you sure you want a HOOD dump, thats some race car/drag car stuff right there lol !!!
I would just go with a regular o2 dump, I AM NOT SURE but I think its the same thing and you will have less trouble with the cops.
I know if a cop pulled me over and there was a pipe sticking out of my hood(even slightly) he would question it highly and most likely give out a ticket. Unless you live in some remote place where cops don't care lol

I'm not too worried about the cops, I haven't had any trouble out of them yet. And I like that the good dump is different. I haven't seen any local ones with them. I don't see how the rain will damage anything, but I'm n

I have two hood exit wastegate pipes, car has never been in a garage and I've put 10k miles on the current setup. It's my daily driver and I drive it all over the midwest; Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, etc.
I let it rain in there all the time, I'm just sure to let the wastegates open the next time I get in the car. Everything is stainless and aluminum so if it rusts then I'll just be returning the parts to the manufacturer. I took the dumps off few weeks ago because I had dropped something in it by accident and everything looked fine.

Awesome, that's the kind of feedback I was looking for. I've seen a few other threads where people weren't having issues, but didn't have many miles on the setup. Sick looking setup by the way

My previous setup had a hood dump. Super loud and I loved it. Everytime it would rain. The dump would get full of water. As soon as you open up the waste gate. It would look like a whale shooting water lol. Now my new setup is a top mount and has exhaust and dump out the hood. Haven't fired her up yet. Should be fun.

your car will be like a whale blowing water out of it's blowpipe. Very cool except your dump will accumulate carbon build-up and when it blows the water out the water will be black in color and it gets on the roof of the car sometimes. But indeed awesome gets alot of crazy looks especially when it blows flames out of the dump!

My buddy has a hood exit dump on his evo and rain will often get in the pipe and he just blows it out like everyone says. Or he put the bottom half of a water bottle to cover the pipe when he thinks about it and when he washes it.
