Clutch failure

Hi all,

A few days ago my clutch failed and I was unable to engage gears any more. I could get it in gear with the engine off, but not with the engine running. The clutch pedal and hydraulics were working fine (i.e. the slave engaged the fork), but the pressure plate wouldn't disengage.

The shop took it apart today and told me that the TOB was pinched in to the pressure plate, so now I need to replace both. The clutch only has 5000 miles on it, and is an ACT HD clutch kit (installed in November). The TOB was the ACT one (not OEM).

Any ideas how this could have happened, or if anyone has seen this before? I will be heading to the shop later today to take a look at the damage myself...

Thanks!

S.

What type of clutch do you have? Pull or push style? Pick up an ACT Monoloc....if you have a pull type pressure plate.

Yes, it's a pull type... Here's a pic of the TOB...

If I use the Monoloc, should I stick with an ACT TOB, or still use OEM? Any drawbacks to OEM?

Thanks!

Yup..Monoloc more than likely would have prevented that (it was designed to prevent failures like this, if I'm not mistaken). I don't know of any drawback to using an OEM TOB with this basic upgraded clutch.

Get an OEM TOB...I too used the ACT TOB and regret it. SOOOO loud now on deceleration. I'll be using an OEM TOB when I replace this ACT clutch...
