Brand new headgasket leaking?!?

Well..... Just started to fill my oil up in my new engine before starting it....

Just installed a 2.4L 4g64 block in my evo 8 and oil starts dripping down the car after I get 3 quarts in....

Theres oil leaking out from the head gasket right under the cam gears.... Whats the deal?!?

Its a decent picture.... oil right around the gasket....

I installed ARP headstuds also and rechecked them that they are the correct torque (80 ft-lbs). And yes i torqued them in 3 different steps in the correct sequence.

Im not sure why this would be leaking with all the studs torqued correctly..... Anybody have any insight what the problem could be?!?

Please help a brotha out.

Was the head and block both decked?

And was the car running or when you poured it in ?

Maybe it wasnt seated on the dowel pins correctly, bent dowel pin, or possibly forgot to put in the dowel pins back in?

I have never really seen it before where the hg leaks so bad that just pouring in oil will cause it to leak through. It would seem to be that its not a bolt torque issue but rather it not being seated down correctly.

Well this is embarrassing. But I have to update it for the sake of the knowledge of other members.

I installed the head gasket wrong.

I have no idea what I was thinking or how I installed it that way. It seemed like that's the only way it would go on but obviously not. I spun it 180 and flipped it 180 to how it should work. Filled it up with oil and seals perfectly!

It's just the classic game of putting the triangle block in the triangular hole and round one in the round hole lol. And I failed.

But either case. I reused the same head gasket as it was brand new, looked undeformed, and never saw any heat or pressure. So I know I'll catch some criticism for that but I'll update it when I fire up the engine and see if it's still sealed off good!

Thanks for the help guys!
