ACD problems, bad computer? bad guage?

Hey guys/gals

I've got a weird problem on a 2006 Evo, it has no indicator on the gauge for tarmac, gravel, snow...nothing lights up, ever, switch doesn't seem to do anything, and it never indicates which setting it is in...
I've plugged a scan tool in and can communicate with the engine ecu, awd ecu, and abs ecu, and there are no stored codes for any of these systems...
I've tested the switch and the wiring back to the awd ecu, all good, I've tested the wiring from the awd ecu to the gauge, also good. So far the wiring tests have only been continuity tests to make sure the wires survived what I can only assume was the previous owners hatred for the car and most of its under dash wiring...
I can command the ACD pump on with my scan tool, and it operates with the ignition on and the throttle depressed

Anybody have any ideas? I'm really hoping somebody can come in here and call me an idiot and point me in the right direction or point out some glaringly obvious thing I've overlooked, any input is appreciated

Did it ever work since youve owned the car? Have you check the cluster? Make sure it has bulbs in it and or the cluster is working properly?

Guage has never worked for me, I'm not sure how to test the gauge other than pulling it apart and checking bulbs, but the everything else on the gauge works and the backlighting is there, etc.

In checking the wiring I have found that at the awd ecu I am seeing the b+ signal from the mode switch, my scan tool tells me the awd ecu is seeing the mode switch input...

however I do not seem to have anything happening at any of the wires coming out of the awd ecu to the gauge, backprobing the connector with the awd ecu plugged in and the ignition on I am not seeing any change in voltage or anything at any of the 3 wires coming out of the awd ecu to the gauge
